One of my coworkers is German. You just explained to me that "clap on his legs" thing he does when meetings get overlong!

I'm Polish, living in Germany, and I use the "crazy" gesture as part of my daily speech patterns, even when I speak Polish 😂

"Haha she's so silly, Germans don't have handges... wait I understand that... oh..."

I love that the gesture for 'you'd better hope' is knocking on something. You can tell it derives from the 'knock on wood' superstition.

I’m really happy I found this channel as an American who is learning German and is wanting to become a German translator/interpreter 😂 it’s helped me learn certain things that language classes probably won’t teach me lol.
This channel has also helped me learn why us Midwestern Americans slap our legs before we stand up to announce we’re leaving. The place I live in the Midwest was very heavily populated by German, French, and Italian immigrants so it’s interesting to find certain gestures that we do are just the after effects of the different cultures that moved here.

They understand each other without words. It means a lot.

We use these exact same gestures in Algeria . It's pretty cool to know we have this in common despite geographical distance

I'm French and I grew up on the German border so I use the same "crazy" gesture but add a little whistle to it 😁

As a german I didn't even specifically realise she was doing the gestures, it just looked so natural

It's a clap on the legs to say I have to go for me 😂

Hahaha “sarcastic” gesture is the same gesture French use for “Mon oeil” which is “my eye” which is like “Yeah, right! I don’t believe that!”

I'm German and I died a little inside because I understood everything but it was awkward 😂

I have mild memories of people doing the eye gesture in Venezuelan when I was a kid, it makes sense! I know there’s a lot German immigrants over there :)
