The Prime Minister's chief adviser, Dominic Cummings, travelled out of London during the lockdown while ill with coronavirus symptoms. He was questioned by the police after travelling to Durham in an apparent breach of the lockdown rules.

It came as the government announced a new £1,000 fine for anyone arriving in the UK from abroad and failing to self-isolate for 14 days. The new quarantine rule is being introduced from June 8th. Ministers say it will help prevent a second wave of coronavirus infections.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reports from Political Correspondent Leila Nathoo and Transport Correspondent Tom Burridge.

Seems like it’s only the general public who need to obey the lockdowns measures if your a politician/scientist you can do what you want 🤔 must be brilliant eh

To resign would be the least he ought to do after he and his team categorically failed to contain the pandemic .

"I broke the rules but I'm an exception"
Now all his tory chums are justifying his actions. It's quite literally one rule for them, another for us.

I applied for various fruit and veg picking jobs back in April and was told then by the different agencies that in order to get the job I would have to live onsite. Tell me what British person is going to live at work for months on end while paying rent or mortage for a property they are not allowed to go to?
This is why you'll not find many British people working the plantation, sorry I mean farmers field.

Even the BBC now dares to criticize the untouchable Cummings? I never thought I would see the day.
It must be a sign that Johnson's days are numbered.

As a unelected member of Boris Johnson team who broke the " stay at home" guidelines. Cummings has too much power that enables him to get away with this. Not only has cummings and his family travelled 250 miles with covid 19, he's staying with his elderely parents so that his son can be looked after by them. Will he resign, well he should, but as he is the prime minister number one advisors i doubt he will after two u-turns in the past 2-days.

I have been working all through this pandemic, keeping to every rule laid down, to make sure I’m doing everything for the NHS.
I so disappointing to see members of our government still don’t give a crap about the services that are keeping this country going and directly assisted the Primeminster in his recover.
And that’s not even mentioning the fact that they tried to get NHS service worker to pay for their own healthcare earlier this week.
So sad really.
