Zelda Echoes of Wisdom was a bit disappointing...

Well I just beat Zelda Echoes of Wisdom and even though there were some good parts it was not the best Zelda experience I have ever had but probably great for the younger audience.

What are your thoughts on Echoes of Wisdom?

I agree that they should definitely try to have some new locations for the zelda games. This is yet another version of the link to the past/link between worlds Hyrule. Im also getting kinda tired of the zora/goron/gerudo races. In totk it was fine because we knew from the start that it would take place in the same Hyrule as botw but with this game its kinda getting stale.

The combat in this game drove me up a wall and killed any enjoyment I would have otherwise gotten out of it, unfortunately.

I just _don't enjoy_ standing around waiting for AI to fight for me, no matter how many different strategies I looked up and tried in my attempt to make myself like this game. Eventually I just had to be honest with myself and admit that I just... don't like this game. Which sucks, because it's the first mainline Zelda title I've ever truly disliked (and I've played all of them except the DS games).

I love all the different flavors of Zelda out there, old and new, but I just _could not_ get past the clunky tedium of the combat in this one no matter how hard I tried. I _wanted_ to like this game.

All this game did was make me want to get out my 3DS and play Link Between Worlds again. 😕

Well, at least you are honest about your opinion, personally, i really enjoyed the puzzles and story, so while I don't agree with your conclusion, its great that you are honest, good luck though on finding something you do enjoy, i do support that you spoke up honestly

Also you have to keep in mind that most critics and YouTubers are going to say nothing but good things about this game bc Nintendo will give them their early access to game and other benefits

Never stop expressing your honest thoughts, I feel people nowadays are constantly waiting for others to have an opinion for them. If I gave a f* about critics or reviewers I probably would have never played Xenoblade 2 for example (which is by far my favorite of the franchise though most people seem to dislike it). Didn't mean to rant but there you go lol

I think this is the worst version of Hyrule we have ever gotten. It felt like a mobile game

I loved the game!! On my second playthrough right now. The only disappointment I've had with the whole franchise is Triforce Heros, which i still played and had fun, but did not love it as much as the others lol. Great video! Nice to see someone be true to themselves and speak from the heart!

Nice review man! I personally thought it was so refreshing to get back to classic Zelda compared to BOTW and TOTK.

Personally my biggest issue with the game is not the gameplay. Not that we play as Zelda. Not even the fact that the main gameplay sorrounds that of summoning mobs and items. I love all of that. My issue is primarily the story. Because it feels boring. And not in the way where I maybe can get into it. Like I love some of the interactions Zelda has with Tri and other characters but we are how many years now into the franchise and they add a villain to top all villains? Null is now the be all end all entity. Literally so. And somehow the literal void of creation is less powerful than Ganon or Ganondorf who needs to aim for the surprise factor to be in any way capable of catching anything.

And I find it hard to even excuse it with the goddesses using the Triforce. Cause Null literally owned the place. Null is for all that matters the creator of the world they ended up transforming. It was his home but the godesses are the good guys now cause they brought life to the world... which wasnt their own.

But no, this isnt really my biggest issue. My biggest issue is that Null as a villain is just boring and bland. He is so one dimensional, he makes the literal embodiement of evil and hatred that is Ganondorf blush. But at least his evil and hatred makes sense and he doest just wanna destroy everything in the world. He just wants to rule it.

But, as a creative myself, whats even worse to me is that I myself also have at one point come up with a character like Null. Funnily enough also called "Null". And yes, same idea too. But I ended up fleshing him out far more into more than just a destroyer. Null now is a Creator Deity that simply has fun with the world he created. Its the 5th cycle and this time people are fighting back over just letting the cycle end. And instead of just doing as he pleases cause he 100% can, he offers the world challenges to see the best the mortal world eventually has to offer. All of it ending up in the final battle where it is to be decided wether or not he grants their wish for their Cycle to survive.

Null in Zelda on the other hand is just an incompetent scheming villain that quite honestly shouldnt have to scheme. By all accounts he should be more powerful than Din, Farore and Nayru combined. The Triforce itself is a force that was brought INTO the void. Why cant he just erase it?? He can erase everything else?? "Oh yea but the Tri". He is literally the Void. How the Eff is incapable of defending the Void??

While I love the old games, I prefer the sandbox games, so Echoes of Wisdom makes me mostly really happy. I love that the game basically has free-climbing due to the spider echo you can get right after the first dungeon. That and the ability to hop on trees is the biggest appeal of this game to me.

I don't mind that they brought traditional dungeons back, and I like the puzzles in them, but the layouts of most of them are so basic. I've done every dungeon except for the Hebra one so far, and the Faron temple was the only one that I liked. I really like it when dungeons either feel like a metroidvania with backtracking, or give you a bunch of choices to tackle it (even if it's still technically linear). Both of these approaches make you think about how you should traverse through the dungeon. Outside of the Faron temple, which has many entrances into the dungeon that enhance the feel of exploration, this game's dungeons don't appeal to either of those approaches.

TotK is my personal favorite game of all time, but even I wouldn't say that that game has the best dungeons in the series, but I will go as far as to say that I think TotK's dungeons are better than the dungeons in this game. I even prefer TotK's water temple over this game's water temple since at least you are required to interact with all of the terminals and can't just find the boss key in one of the paths and then skip the rest of it. They should have added a large iron gate to the top floor that would lower when activating all terminals, and then they should have had a part two to the dungeon and moved the boss key into somewhere in that new section.

The layout of the dungeons are such a small piece of the game, so even though I'm bothered by it I still think so much of the game is fantastic. I'd still say I'm loving it and would give it an 8.5 or 9.

I have to force myself to justify the 60 dollars I wasted. It's really really boring... The artstyle and chibi design is offputting. Everything is shiny and looks like it's made of plastic. The combat is boring and the puzzles are braindead. Exploration is never satisfying. I really wish zelda got a proper 3d game

I was really looking forward to this game as I really loved the art style for the Links Awakening Switch remake, and I was so excited about seeing the Hyrule map in that same art style. Playing as Zelda seemed like a cool idea and I was open to it. However, I didn't finish the game even though I really wanted to....I really wanted to love this game. I found the more echoes I learned, the more tedious and boring the game was to me, and it was more like a chore to play, rather than a fun game to play. I agree with your idea that Zelda game where you actually played as Zelda should be a game where you play a Mage character with a staff that shoots fire or lightning, and then you have just a few Echoes...rather than feeling you are just watching the gameplay happen....that would have been so much better!! So yeah, I don't hate it EOW but when you don't finish a game it obviously is lacking in something.

I also got bored watching the echoes do the fighting for me and agree that they should have given Zelda some ranged spells. Combat just feels too passive and awkward. Whenever a mob gets in my face and I don’t have sword meter charged I feel helpless to do anything. That’s not a fun feeling as the player. I really want to like this game. I enjoy the nostalgia and the premise of the story but, man they really messed up forcing you to rely on echoes.

In the item menu isn’t there a “most used” view like TotK has? It’s the next best thing after not having a favorites feature. In TotK, changing that menu view is a vital timesaver.

This also could be nostalgic to some early Zelda players since it resembles Hyrule in A Link to the Past. It’s interesting to come up with new ideas, sure, but it’s also interesting to revisit past games with a twist. Zelda has done both of these, countless times, which results in their games often being fresh and interesting, yet familiar.

It's okay to criticize something that is not good at all.

I respect your honesty. Keep it honest and forget about those who hate.

I might not have appreciated letting the AI do the fighting for me either. Great review!
