Manchester United are planning to make a formal approach to Newcastle for sporting director Dan Ashworth.

It is understood the Newcastle chief is top of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's list to front up his new football operation at Old Trafford, although no formal approach has yet been made.

Newcastle would be reluctant to let Ashworth leave but the 52-year-old is privately open to exploring the potential opportunity to join Man Utd.

The interest in Ashworth comes after the Premier League and the Football Association both approved Ratcliffe's proposed bid to buy a minority stake in the club.

re Ashworth at Brighton it was Sam Jewell that identified all those players btw, Ashworth negotiated the prices. So if united are really serious its Sam Jewell is the one you will want going forward regarding talent ID.

Manchester United's post-Ferguson strategy is akin to throwing darts blindfolded and hoping to hit the bullseye

Have a look at the signings under his stewardship at West Brom. Now that was impressive

I couldn't tell you about his role in the Brighton signings but with Newcastle;

Botman - Newcastle already bid for him 6 months before Ashworth joined
Isak - Newcastle were scouting him, along with Arsenal 6-7 months before
Gordon - Howe was the one who identified him and if you have watched the Prime series, you'd know Amanda Staveley negotiated that transfer
Barnes - Newcastle had been linked with a move for almost 2 years, so likely was one they would have done sooner had they had an owner willing to spend

Tonali is the only one that can be said with certainty that Dan Ashworth truly accomplished, seeing as he was out in Italy for it and even then he was in Italy because he was supposed to be signing Barella. Livramento might be down to him also but not much is known about how that deal came about.

So all in all Sky are being quite generous in crediting Ashworth for transfers he had little involvement in.
Oh and we just let go some academy players he was involved in recruiting and yet the academy was meant to be his area of specialism.

How tf, do you do “due diligence” on a player that has a private gambling addiction, that plays for another club abroad in Italy?

What a ridiculous statement

Kaveh spends 6 minutes explaining a headline from Fabrizio Romano. Kaveh “tap-in” Solhekol.

Sporting directors dont buy players. They are in charge of overseeing various departments like sport science, recruitment staff, medical staff etc

The last time MU dealt with NU for a notable signing was Andrew Cole for £7m with Gillespie going the other way.

It's amazing to think that almost 30 years later we're now talking similar figures in millions but as compensation for directors...

Man.. i hope Dan was really involved in those deals and United can get some gems just like he did before.
Would be so happy to see United making a few signings below 50m(United tax🤣) that can be good solid 1st team players.

More lazy journalism, Isak and Tonali were both nothing to do with Dan. This is why non major channels are getting more views as they don’t lie or clickbait as much. Truth matters

United would surely need some one like him for the business
