Superman (It’s Not Easy)
Five for Fighting
Produced by Gregg Wattenberg
Album America Town

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naïve
I'm just out to find
The better part of me

I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me

I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
'Bout a home I'll never see

It may sound absurd but don't be naïve
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won’t you concede
Even Heroes have the right to dream
And it's not easy to be me

Up, up and away, away from me
Well, it's alright
You can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy or anything

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naïve
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees

I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
Inside of me, inside of me
Inside of me, inside of me
I’m only a man in a funny red sheet
I’m only a man looking for her dream
I’m only a man in a funny red sheet
It's not easy
It's not easy to be me

To the person on the other end of the line. It's possible that we don't even share a nationality. We don't look like each other. Different languages are used by every one of us. It's possible that we're from completely different time periods. We're simply random strangers who happened to cross paths. However, there is something that binds the two of us together. We both have great taste in music. I appreciate you being here today. Whoever you are, I wish you well.

"Even heroes have the right to bleed." This explains that even the strongest and mightiest man get hurts. Also, it reminds me that no matter how great you are in so many ways it doesn't mean you're not struggling.

Perspective is everything, listening to this as a high-school student and now as an adult is very different.

Back then I thought sure superman can't always be a hero but now as an adult you realize how many sacrifices you have to make to keep your family safe, happy, you bear all these burdens. I saw the same things from my own father and my wife's father, hard working men who gave everything to make their families lives better.

Sometimes you doubt yourself. Is this is really how you want to spend every day moving forward? Alot of what you do will be unrecognized, but out of love we push through the best we can, accepting we can't be perfect.

When you get older, this hits even harder especially when you've got so much responsibilities everyday.

Even the strongest, most successful, brightest person feel pain and needed someone to be there for them. They bleed, stumble, make mistakes. Humans are humans 😢

Decided to go back to college at 38 and this song popped in my head going through my second semester and wanted to drop to my knees and cry. It’s not easy but it’s my path and I have to stay the course for me 💪🏾 I will

This reminds me of my late father. Whenever I hear this song I can't help but tear up, because he always sings this song whenever we have a family gathering. He will always be my Superman

One of my sons favorite artist when my son was a teenager. He made great music choices. As a mom, i enjoyed his musical tastes. I can remember crying my eyes out when i had to say goodbye to him at college. I would listen to this song so that i felt close to him as if we were stilll in the car listening to tunes together

The hardest and saddest thing about being someone like Superman, who saves countless people, does extraordinary things and makes sure people are safe, is yet despite all of that, no one ever really asks if he himself, is ok

I feel like this song isn't about superman at all. To me, it's about all those people out there that sacrifice for their loved ones. It's about unsung heroes who you look up to. They probably seem happy and it may seem as if they have it all figured out, but deep down they're suffering a desperate, lonely existence to keep from burdening others.

You're not alone. Stay strong for your loved ones and never give up - for their sake. I wish I had something more comforting and compelling to say...

I remember this song being brand new back in 2001. Those times will never get old. ❤

Heroes who we look up to,
Proud men that stand tall;
Even they fall to their knees,
We’re all only Human after all..

When I was in middle school, I had a really rough time and a lot of kids thought I was weird. This song really speaks to me in that it recognizes that maybe under all the crazy, I have feelings too. What may be seen on the surface, says nothing about who you are as a person. One of my best friends from this time recently passed, and he loved this song. This just gives me so much nostalgia.

I was 7 when this song first came out now here I am a 31 years old man, still here. At this stage of life, to finally realize that we are no superman hits hard.

This song was playing in the operating room for Crohn's Disease surgery. My disease had been trying to kill me. It was not easy being me that year. Yet, as I drifted off to this song, I felt hopeful.

I'd forgotten about this beautiful song until it turned up on a TV show, of all places, and it was so good to hear it again. I appreciate it more now than when I was younger. Beautiful song beautifully performed. Profound: We're all "Superman."
