Older American here. Don't know anything about the man, just commenting on the term, politically speaking, used by the commentator. Ultimate team player probably means = relatively unheard of, insignificant political record, currently still available, won't overshadow or upstage the boss, unassertive, non-offensive, unremarkable, cheerleader, who can translate what the boss says into English for all us poorly informed simple folk.
