My brother was legally called “Baby [SURNAME]” for around three years, because our parents hadn’t picked a name by the time they left the hospital. They only realised they hadn’t changed his name to what they’d decided YEARS later when they went to the GP with him and heard them calling for “Baby [SURNAME]”.

The name they decided on was Laurence, and we moved to France when he was around five. In France Laurence is a girl’s name and Lauren is a boy’s name. He was on the school register as a girl for a year.
