9.800RPM VW GOLF Mk2 || FORMULA 3 Engine Swap ONBOARD

This is the beautiful VW Golf Mk2 Berg-Cup machine of Sarp Bilen, one of the Fastest 1600cc Class units int he iconic German HillClimb series. Powered by a specially built Spiess engine unit dubbed SPG01 and based on the power unit unit used on the one powering the Formula 3 single seaters, producing 250Hp at a screaming 9.800Rpm, moving only 730KG of weight. Here you can watch it on Homburg HillClimb in Max Attack mode on the way to a tremendous result.

What a fine machine but that’s magic of Bergcup and i think it’s pretty much a proven fact that best sounding 4 cylinder N/A cars race there.Just listen to that symphony-i dare to say it’s right up there with engines that have 8 and more cylinders.

I love the little map! I remember struggling while trying to get good-looking telemetry graphics out of my GoPro via their (at the time) quite limited software. This looks much better than the end results I achieved, plus we get to see the layout of the stage 👍👍

Mk2's will forever have special place in my soul as a 1st love of mine and the 1st little street rocket i had built as a kid..$600 with 52, 000 original miles my beautiful dark grey metallic 4dr 87' jetta gl 1.8 8v 10, 500RPM W\cis injection, ported and shaved cylinder head, 5 angle valve cut, chevy small block duel coiled beehive crane valve springs, titanium retainers, TT .286\.446 hillclimb-rally cross camshaft, TT adjustable cam sprocket, pacesetter longtube header, 2¼ straight pipe with an oldschool flowmaster muffler. Gutted out weight reduced to about 2200lbs and years of great memories and many many nights with many many naked ladies in that back seat and when your 18yrs old every one of them where perfect 10s... ❤ 🎉 i had a good life and way way too much fun back then in the late 90s early 00s
