Calm and composed. In the zone the entire time. Literally every competitor has to go against someone bigger at some point or another during that summit climb of Jiu Jitsu. That's how they find out how good their technique REEALLLLY woks. When the parents tell me they their kiddo wants to compete l. I tell them at least 6 weeks notice, 2 days comp rolling, 1 day of drilling, 1 day of regular rolling. Week 3 and on we roll with NOTHING else other than their game plan. One of The 3 takedowns each student is gonna use. 1 of 3 passes. 1 of 3 subs from side Ctrl, 1 of 3 of everything. Keep transitioning. Memorize our code words. Switch position if they can't sub from a certain position (abandon ship). This way they'll be ready for ANYTHING. Kids and adults. I tell the parents..."your son is a gray belt. That team has a yellow belt with no one to go against. He's lighter but higher ranking. You must be prepared to let your son step up to the plate if asked''
