*** OUR NEW KILLER SUDOKU APP IS JUST OUT ON ALL PLATFORMS - LINKS BELOW ***

Today's puzzle marks an extraordinary achievement: it is the 300th puzzle by The Sudoku Professor, Richard Stolk, in his Sudoku Variants Series - which has been appearing on Logic Masters Germany over the last 7 years! Play it at the link below:

Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Each digit within the 9x9 region represents a skyscraper of that height. Digits outside this region indicate how many buildings can be seen from that direction, where higher buildings block the view of lower buildings. The small numbers in the upper left corner of the dotted outlined areas indicate the sum of the digits in that area. Within a cage, all digits must be different.

Again very nice seeing solving a puzzle from me. 😀 Apart from the 9 in box 6 you made the progress you should have, including the knowledge that a skyscraper clue + the first digit add to a maximum of 10. That would have limited the possibilities i nR123C5 a bi further too. But that column is the hard part in the puzzle anyway. So all in all: well done on a tough puzzle. 👍
Thanks for the video, a delight again!

One good idea for the future: If you have puzzles like this, where there is a skyscraper restriction to figure out, use coloring of the outside square - this will help you with the scanning.

21:45 "I probably can I'm just not spotting how to do it" I'm sure Simon sees this eventually* but the 89 in box 6 are immediately forced -- 9 cannot be in row 4 with the 5 skyscraper clue so close, at which point there's only one way to put them in the right order for the 4 clue below...

*[edit] yep, around 45:00

Please notice the 5, please notice the 5! 😁 The 5 skyscraper clue means the 9 can't be in r4c7, so both the 9 and 8 are forced in the box.

It's amazing how I can spot lots of things before Simon, but when I try to do a puzzle my self it takes me ages :)

Great puzzle! Maybe you should shade in the outer cells so you can differentiate them from the live grid.

I got a big laugh at "cooking with gas" declared 20 minutes into a 54 min video.

I have been watching Simon for more than a year, and every day he says, “There is probably some way to go further, but I am not spotting it” and every day for a year, it seems like false modesty. Today, however at 22:00, he suspects he is not spotting something, and he’s right: there is a corner-mark 9 at r4c7, but the skyscraper of 5 makes that impossible, leaving r5c7 the only possible location for the 9 in the 6th box.

You should probably color all the outer cells to distinguish them from the cells in the sudoku.

At 38:42 he falsely assumed the 1 skyscraper clue at the top saw the box, pretty lucky that the one ended up actually not being there. But i don't blame him, its probably pretty hard to scan with those clues

38:42 so lucky with the 1, aren't you? Cause you took the 1 from outside the grid

"One has to be in these two cells" he says mistakenly using the 1 in the border at 38:43 followed *immediately* by "i keep wanting to use this 2 in the border but it's not logical" at 39:05

Every time you complained about getting confused by the border I was screaming at the tv to please colour the border cells. It would also have made it easier to see which border cells were relevant because you could have blacked out the ones that weren't in cages.

38:45 How did you get the ones? I think you made a mistake here (looking on the skyscraper's clue, maybe?)...

I felt obligated to solve the puzzle today because my name was mentioned in the video :) Thanks for the mental exercises CtC!

I'd recommend hilighting the perimeter cells (maybe grey?) to distinguish them from the sudoku cells.

Rules might be better phrased as "Normal sudoku rules apply _within the 9x9 grid."_ (Otherwise, the skyscraper clues are logically included in "every row and column", which is impossible)

2 hour to solved this puzzle. Totally worth it! Brilliant puzzle!

16:12 yet another case of Simon over estimating his audience 😂 No Simon no. I haven't spotted anything. In fact I didn't even dare this puzzle. I am just here for your commentary and your solve - which I find very calming and entertaining. Thanks!

Whoah what?! A sudoku where the clues outside the grid are actually digits you need to place as part of the solve. Never seen this before!

Simon: colors many of his sudokus
Also Simon: does not color the outer cells to visually separate them from the sudoku grid
