Starbucks ordered to pay $25.6 million to regional director who says she was fired for being white

A jury found in favor of former Starbucks regional director Shannon Phillips, who sued the company for wrongfully firing her, claiming she was terminated for being white.

Phillips, who worked for Starbucks for about 13 years and managed a region of stores in the area, was fired after the the arrest of two Black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks in April 2018.

It’s called “loitering” and most businesses have a no loitering policy, it’s even listed on signs of the exterior entrances of those businesses. Wifi costs money, seating areas cost money. You get the seating and workspace with wifi connectivity by purchasing something from the business. People who aren’t customers taking up customer space has always been a problem, not a new one. Just buy a cake pop to be granted hours of work time in a Starbucks- or go to the library where it’s free to sit until the library closes. It’s a business and not a charity.
