A380 weight on wheels: ultra close touchdown in slo-mo

Saved my favourite shot of 2018 for my last upload of the year.

Thought of calling it something like "poetry in slow motion" , but anyway I had to disguise myself as a blade of grass to get it ;)

For any landing gear spotters out there this is Emirates super-jumbo A6-EUO alighting on a wet runway and demonstrating its bouncy suspension.

I knew the impact on the tires, but never imagined them bouncing after the first touchdown. Of course, it makes sense. BTW, flawless landing, very gentle. The company is greatfull to the crue for that.

Outstanding video. Imagine the the pressure from the aircrafts weight, it’s speed at landing, the friction on touchdown and the heat from said friction and the brakes. Wow 😯, truly a marvel of engineering.

Oh and just for a sense of scale those tires are like 4.5 feet tall. Doesn’t sound big but when your actually standing next to one they are massive

I’m more impressed with the hydraulic shocks absorbing the impact of the touch down and maintaining tire contact on the ground then the weight on wheels. The aircraft still has lift even at the end of the video.
