QGIS Australia User Meetup 2017: Things you need to understand about spatial reference frameworks

Ever sat in on a talk about spatial reference framework stuff - coordinate reference systems, coordinate transformations and conversions, re-projections, GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84…. - and wished you had done something else? This isn’t one of those talks!

Analogies will be used to clarify how spatial platforms on our “3rd rock from the sun” currently georeference spatial information and identify changes required to support 21st century technology. Current international activity in the open source realm in support of this change will be summarised and related to Australia’s move to replace GDA94 with GDA2020 and the ATRF. QGIS will be referenced to demonstrate the matters being discussed.
