I am so sorry that the situation has gotten so much worse. Can you put most of your things in storage and get an airbnb while you are looking? Trying to find a new place AND deal with the situation that is going on has got to be bad for your stress levels.
Terry Pratchett and Laurie King are favorites of mine. I loved both books you mentioned. I think I liked the idea of Cerulean Sea more than the execution, but I had the same issue with Miss Peregrine's Home for Pecular Children. So it might just be me. I haven't read the Menace of the Machines but I recently read his Yesterday's Tomorrows. It's very good. His Mammouth Book of Mindblowing Science Fiction is also a great read if you have the chance.
