It Gets Even Worse For Adobe! Adobe is Sued For Scummy Business Practices

Adobe's terrible month just got even worse. After annoying many of their customers (even more) with updated Terms of Service with some very questionable clauses, many customers had enough and decided to cancel. Many of those cancelling were shocked to be hit with a terrible process and large cancellation fees.

Those fees seem unfair... and the Department of Justice Consumer Protection Agency agrees, as they have hit Adobe with a lawsuit over these fees and other scummy business practices.

The EU is probably breathing down their neck already about this.

You can abuse your customer so much till you reach a certain tipping point. Once that tipping point is crossed it's game over and your customers will recall every past occasion you screwed them over and they'll leave for good.

Adobe just keeps digging themselves deeper and deeper. Their self sabotage needs to be studied

Top tip for people in the UK/EU - if you're in the annual paid monthly subscription, go through the cancellation process until you get the chance to change your plan. Accept a new plan (any, it doesn't matter) and wait for a few hours. Then cancel your new plan - you're in the cool off period and will get a full refund on the new plan and you're out of the old plan without any penalty.
I don't know if this works for the annual plan that's paid yearly.

The day Adobe went to subscription-based fee's was the day I stopped using Adobe.

Fun fact, when I cancel'd my subscription, before I even went to the cancellation section, They offered a discount of 10%. Then when I hit cancel, they offered a drop down to something like $29.99. Then when the last damn cancel button appeared there were like "Ok we will give you 3 months free! JUST DON"T FUCKING CANCEL" I wish I took screenshots, but that spells desperate to me. Good riddance. Been working on replacing my old workflows on After Effect over on to Blender, and honestly, its so much better.Customer of 10+ years GONE, bye Felicia

Adobe sub canceled here. Affinity bought. DxO PhotoLab bought. Adobe in my rear-view mirror.

I wish predatory business practices like this were enough to make anyone go out of business for good. The law is too easy on corporations

When I was angry at Substance for selling themselves to Adobe, everyone told me I was an idiot and laughed at me... Who's laughing now...

Photographer here, I dropped them when they went for a subscription model as well as any other software that did. Life is already expensive as it is so they want to charge us money to use their software to make our money instead of a flat fee. Affinity is good enough for me. Screw all the companies that do this subscription services. It's like the damn tipping community, it's gotten outta hand. Edit, I hope they go bankrupt.

You know it's become an axiomatic phrase, "So and so pulled a Unity..." I hear it more and more frequently...

Changing the ToS is one thing. Still trying to apply cancellation fees when the ToS has been changed to take IP away from users is extortion.

I got hit with those hidden cancellation fees, screw Adobe, I hope they go to the wall with all this, that's what they deserve.

I'm one of those people that accidentally ended up not being able to cancel. I've been using CS6 for over a decade, but decided to trial the most recent photoshop to compare last year. Well the weekend I was going to cancel, my father ended up in the hospital and I missed it by a couple days. I explained it to Adobe, and they were less than understanding about it, so I said, ok, I'll use it for the month (it had auto-charged me $20) and then cancel and they said that's fine. Low and behold the month was up, I went to cancel and went through the process only to get the popup saying I had to pay them a couple hundred dollars to cancel early. Naturally I called them and they had no record of my previous conversation and basically told me to hit the road. So I ended up having it for most of the year as I just didn't have the energy to keep fighting it. When the policy updates came last week I suck screw this and paid what was leftover to cancel. I'll go back to CS6, or consider the alternatives, but I am done giving money to adobe.

They have already trained their AI on your content and the TOS change is to get in front of that so they don't get sued. Adode is a massive dumpster fire.

I have a valid physical copy of Adobe After Effects CS6, and Adobe had the nerve to call my copy an "invalid" copy years after. They wanted to give me a few days to upgrade to CC or have CS6 bricked. What did I do? I found a hack to patch this nonsense. Problem solved. :)

1. Switch plan, and get remaining money back of the current plan. 2. Cancel plan. 3. No cancellation fee…

Reminds me of trying to cancel a gym membership. During the lockdown in 2020, I had to physically show up at my gym to cancel as they wouldn't let me do it online. If a company has to obfuscate and put up roadblocks to prevent you from leaving, the product or service probably isn't quality is it?

As soon as Adobe decided on this subscription fee I said nope and im using other products, I refuse to pay a sub for any products that could be a stand alone purchase...
