rockstar logic: everything is reflecting except actual mirrors

Love how the car mirrors still don't reflect 😂

The RT implementation is both impressive and lackluster.
Impressive in the fact that it looks almost crystal clear and that even details like shadows and ambient occlusion are shown in the reflection (where as most games get rid of those details and even lower the frame rate of npc's like in the Spider-man games)
But lackluster in the fact that the distance for those reflections is pretty poor and you can see that they use cubemaps for things in the distance and that looks really poor, honestly

It's crazy to think that this game is almost 10 years old

When you change your perspective to first person view in the car, game doesn't render reflections on your car. That's why mirrors in cars did not change. But mirrors actually kinda work now. You can see it if you use Rockstar Editor and move camera inside of the car.

Performance RT should have all this. Hate we need to kill FPS to 30

Maybe in the next game we'll get working car mirrors...

There's some improvement also in Series S, not as big as full ray tracing but now streetlights affect reflections in a chrome car. If you destroy a streetlight, the reflection dissappears from the car. If I change to performance mode, that effect disappears.

This is just a sample of how realistic GTA 6 will be. Hopefully 🤞

its great for rockstar it gives them a chance to hide the hundreds of interiors they left as a textured 2d image with a reflection

>add raytracing
>dont make the rearview mirror properly reflective
Rockstar... Rockstar never changes.

People are still gonna complain but this is actually pretty impressive. Very few games have this level of RT on PS5 and XSX, especially open world games.

What annoys me is either by accident or not, performance modes removed the glossy shine on car windows. They look matte, and sometimes you can't tell if the glass is even there.

For an open world game, this is incredible.

What's more surprising is that this 2013 PS3/360 game has cubemaps/reflections without the need of any ray tracing, far more accurate and without breaking immersion, than a recent game. You can see that parts where the game uses the standard reflection solution, that on ray tracing they are, for the most part just better quality than the original, with the object reflected on the surface being actually what is supposed to be reflected, like on the building at 00:57 reflecting the same stuff in both techniques, but with a higher resolution quality on RT. Compared to something like Spider-Man 2018 in the same situation just uses some generic cubemap to reflect the city onto the building windows, and even straight up changing cubemaps right on your face, breaking the immersion.

Sorry but I prefer 60fps. With ray tracing on, you only get 30fps.

Guys, for the last time, GTA V doesn't use cubemaps. It's a render-to-texture reflection, using a low poly model of the map.

Way to go rockstar, implement ray tracing everywhere except where it would be most appreciated, car mirrors
