In 2002, former Pres. Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his humanitarian work.

"War may sometimes be a necessary evil, but no matter how necessary, it is always evil," Carter said in his acceptance speech.

He was never meant for the corrupt halls of politics. I'm glad he had it, though. It gave him the platform for all of his later work. The things he and Roseland did have made the world a better place and will leave an impact far beyond what most have done with their years in office. I know we are going to lose him soon, and that will be a sad day. What a life well lived, though.
