Papon (Angaraag Mahanta), A multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and singer has become one of the most recognizable-and-sought-after voices in India. While rooted in folk, Papon has a wide variety of influences and considered to be an extremely versatile artist. Coming from a musically attuned family, Music has always been in his blood. His inspirations came from the Assamese traditional Folk songs of Eastern.
In the last couple of years, Papon has quickly carved a niche for himself in the world of playback singing in Bollywood, Tamil, Marathi and Bangla movies. he can easily switch from folk music to ghazals to electronica and collaborated many local and foreign artists.
Papon has seven Assamese albums to his name – two original albums and five folk albums. In 2015 Prag Cine Awards, Papon is awarded the Global Icon Award.
In 2007, Papon formed his folk-fusion band “Papon and The East India Company”, had performed many Indian and international festival such as Celtic Connections, Glasgow, Paleo Music Fest, Java Jazz Festival, Oslo World Music Festival.
Bangladesh’s folk music boasts a rich heritage and bonding with the roots of the culture that is still practically unheard of by the global audience. "Dhaka International FolkFest" is here to provide the international platform where the entire planet can enjoy the culture’s true form embodied in its folk music along with the different folk musicians all over the world.
