My kids classes are on quarantine for 2 weeks! We are sitting home most of the time. Kids are on "distance learning". George is ill and we don't know what it is... hope not what we think it is!!!

How is the situation with COVID in your country? Do kids go to school?

From Russia with love,
Marina

"Winter Morning" by Alexander Pushkin
Hard frost and sunshine – a day of pleasure!
You are still drowsy at your leisure –
It’s time, my beauty, ope your eyes!
Let you get free of blissful dreaming,
To meet the North Aurora, deeming
The Star of North, let you arise!

Last eve the blizzard howled angry,
The ghostly sky struck all and sundry,
The vapid moon was scarcely seen
Among dark drear clouds drifting;
Your mood was cheerlessly shifting -
Look now – what a change has been!

Under a bright blue vault of heaven
Like a beautiful carpet, soft and even,
The snow glitters in sunlight;
Transparent woods are soly dark,
The firs through hoarfrost nicely sparkle
And under ice brooks' torrents slide.

With amber light the entire room
Is being lit up. What a boon
Is a merry crackle of the stove’s flame.
How swell to ponder near a fire!
But listen, wouldn’t we desire
To ride in our open sleigh?

While sliding over morning snow
Be drawn into a run in tow
Of an impatient mare, trotting hard?
And visit fields that now are empty,
And woods – a recent horn of plenty,
The bank too dear to my heart.
----------------------------------------------------

На мутном небе мгла носилась;
Луна, как бледное пятно,
Сквозь тучи мрачные желтела,
И ты печальная сидела –
А нынче … погляди в окно:

Под голубыми небесами
Великолепными коврами,
Блестя на солнце, снег лежит;

Hot lemon tea with lemon and honey is usually something recommended her in the states not just for colds, but also if suddenly your throat gets really dry or you lose your voice, and can't speak loudly. Horehound, which is in many cough syrups is perhaps one of the best herbs to add to tea for a cold, cough, or sore throat. But, it's really bitter, so you have to use a lot of honey or sugar to mask it.

Hello Marina! So sorry to hear of the worrying time you've experienced. How fortunate your boys are to have such caring parents.A mother's love and care will always be the best medicine. Well done to your younger son for his recitation of the poem and thank you for the Russian and English translation. Look after yourselves. Best wishes from sunny S.Africa.

You are a good mama Marina. American kids in general are not tea drinkers probably because most adults are not big tea drinkers; we are more of a coffee society. I personally like both hot and iced coffee drinks, but only hot tea not iced tea. Kids are so resilient and so happy that George got through it so quickly, and that the rest of the family stayed well. You all do the very same things we do over here with our kids; parenting is parenting all over the world. Thanks for sharing your quarantine experience with us.😊

Our entire household of 8 got Covid over 2 weeks ago, including 3 kids, all under 6 years old. We had cold and flu like symptoms, the worst was the sore throat. Thankfully we’re all on the mend. Glad to know your kids are feeling better. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Ps. The weather in our part of Canada seems to be the same as yours, tons of snow everywhere.

Take good care, Marina. I’m glad the boys are fine. Here in California it’s bad again. We are saying to each other, “ When is this going to end?” I’ve been fine, but my daughter and husband got COVID at the beginning of the month. Their symptoms were mild though and didn’t last long. They weren’t vaccinated though. How is that going in Russia? Are most people getting vaccinated?

If you put a humidifier in your kids room that can help with colds, or breaking a fever. Especially since there's often not a lot of humidity in winter. I used to work for some gyms, and what all the Asians would do is go sit in the steam rooms, and saunas with a thermos of green tea. It definitely helps take a few days off a cold.

I do put fresh cranberries in smoothies most days for Vitamin C, but I have a lot of other fruit for that. Mainly I, and a lot of Americans drink cranberry juice to prevent or treat UTI's (Urinary Track Infections). I found some cranberry wine that I'm saving for our Thanksgiving holiday later in November because we eat a lot of cranberry side dishes with turkey at that time. It should be really fun to post about on my Instagram. :-)
