It is truly not said enough just how much Jaune embodies the role of the support character. Even down to his very soul, his semblance is made to heal people, bring them up, help them to unleash power they never could imagine on their own.
His and Ruby's realtionship, in my opinion, is the absolute strongest in the entire show.

This last episode was a good example of the following saying: Hurt people hurt people.

Jaune has always been Ruby’s most recurring foil on the heroes’ side, Cinder being her most prominent foil on the enemy side. Other foils have come and gone, but Jaune has remained a constant, both to the story and Ruby. He always asked questions she didn’t or wouldn’t. He pushed back against Oz and Qrow for the sake of his friends, because he didn’t trust their intentions. And when the group started doubting Ruby’s leadership he mediated, played the peacekeeper, as Ruby had when he got heated about Oz’s lies.

Jaune wears his emotions on his sleeves, when he suffers he can't hide it. Ruby bottles her emotions up, always running to the next crisis, pushing her suffering to the side because "you need to keep moving forward." Jaune gets angry, he gets loud when he's in pain. But that means eventually he addresses it, works through it. Ruby's never had to confront her pain, because she's always helped others confront their own first.

Their similar drives, interests and personalities. But their differing methods, how they lead, why they lead, and the cores of their characters. Their differences bring out the best in each other, and cover the other’s shortcomings. Jaune gets the way Ruby thinks in a way that only other members of her family do, people that have known her for her entire life. Their mutual bond of support and understanding, one of the strongest and best written relationships in the entire show

Ruby was there for Jaune when nobody believed in him, not even himself. Not even Pyrrha. And Jaune stayed by Ruby’s side when she lost her team, he walked side-by-side with her across a continent on a hunch because he trusted her.

And now when both need that confidant most, their pillar of support is gone.

You could even say the way they handled the fall out of the argument matches how they grieve. Jaune being the one to wear his grief on his sleeve apologizes afterwards and acknowledges he knows he’s not okay. While Ruby being the one to bottle everything up tells Blake to shut up when she tried to cheer her up and then runs away from all of them. Man the writing is sooo good this volume.

Ruby is stuck being everyone’s hero, drowning and wanting someone to save her.

Jaune is doing everything in his power to be a hero, yet fails to save anyone else and can only save Ruby.

CRWBY actually stated that Jaune and Ruby are two sides of the same coin.

Jaune and Ruby honestly had the best relationship throughout the whole series. I always felt that Ruby was closer to Jaune than she was to the rest of her teammates. With her teammates, she always had to be their leader and the one to pick them back up. But with Jaune, she could just be herself and they could confide in each other.

But now, they can't...

They have suffered too much and things can't be like they were before. Does this mean that they will never be friends again? Or will they actually rekindle and reforge their bond stronger than ever? Time will tell.

I think one of the reasons I love the dichotomy of Jaune and Ruby is because it reminds a lot of Aang and Korra

Aang is a normal kid learning to become the avatar, Korra is the avatar learning to be a normal teenager

Jaune is a normal guy learning to be a Huntsman, Ruby is a born Huntress who never got to be a normal girl

The part about Jaune that possibly scares me the most… is that he’s based off of Joan of Arc. For those who don’t know her story, she met a pretty gruesome end. It makes me wonder if this is possibly the beginning of the end for Jaune. Just remember that every single member of team JNPR are based off of mythological characters that end up dying. (Jaune= Joan of Arc, Nora= Thor, Pyrrha= Achilles, Ren= Mulan)

Joan of Arc was burned alive

Thor was poisoned by Jörmungandr

Achilles was shot by an arrow

Mulan committed suicide

One of the best videos about Jaune/Ruby situation. I hope the next chapter Jaune speak about Penny to each other and he try to speak with Ruby, i think he's the only one who can help Ruby in this moment

Actually come to think of it couldn't you also say Jaune was always destined to be a Hero? He's the Rusted Knight. A hero from a popular fairy tale that has existed for decades. But the only way that even happens is because he went to beacon and got wrapped up in the battle with Salem. Doesn't that mean that RWBY's timeline is looped and that Jaune was always supposed to got to beacon and become the Rusted Knight?

Definitely enjoyed the parallels that you found in there between Jaune and Ruby. It was awesome seeing those differences between Jaune being “broken” and Ruby, likewise, being “lost”. I hadn’t even connected those images until you had talked about that. Volume 9 is really pulling at the heart strings this time. I just hope that they will make it out of the Ever After and with theirselves and weapons back to normal. I truthfully don’t want to see Ruby with another weapon, after all, she took so much pride in making it and it has always been the signature thing that us fans know.

Joe: Volume 1 Jaune wasn't that popular.

I'm really hoping Jaune gets a new weapon. It's like you said. His weapon is his great GREAT grandfather's sword. He is figuratively and literally carrying the weight of the past. Misdeeds, misteps, and mistakes and all that it's history comes with. Since he helped Ruby find her rose, maybe she can help him find or even better yet FORGE a new weapon with him. Not to say he should just dump his old arms, just keep them as a memento but ultimately leave it behind

12:50 I've been saying the same thing about Ruby with Penny. She sees Penny the same as how everyone else sees her. The light of hope that keeps them going.

Crwby also said in interview after last episode that Jaune and ruby 2 sides of the same coin it . It’s also shown in how they developed as warriors Jaune was a late bloomer he likely didn’t show the natural talent on surface like his peers when they were kids as evidenced by his parents lack in faith of his ability to make it at beacon it wasn’t until Pyrrha mentored him that potential started to show whereas for ruby combat came easily and it didn’t take long for her to get strong

this is my personally interpretation and I doubt it’s right, but I feel like the most recent episode flips ruby and jaune.

jaune, the white rabbit, is constantly moving. he’s late, he’s running out of time, he needs to keep moving, one moment of rest and everything falls apart. but this cycle, while emblematic of jaune’s form of grief and coping, really highlights ruby’s flaw in her get up and go approach.

ruby is speed, she is momentum, she drives the story forward and never stops. in volume 4, where everyone got to grow and have their own very defined arcs, ruby was the vessel to keep the story moving. she had to keep going, not a moment of rest. it leads her to volume 8, where she finally breaks about ‘accomplishing nothing’. all of her forward momentum, atlas still fell, mantle was still destroyed, penny still died, the relics were still taken.

she looks at jaune, constantly moving and not accomplishing anything in his current state. he’s still stuck, all these years later, physically and mentally. how much has ruby positively changed since the start of volume 4? she cycles viciously in optimism and momentum, and it’s done NOTHING for her.

and as personal growth goes, WBY has exceeded ruby immensely. this roll of a hero has stunted her, and through jaune, we can really see that. even though they’re polar opposites in term of their way of grieving, the outcome is the same. always running out of time and always running in circles, changing nothing.

Ruby: *finally let's out years of pent up rage of feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders, a fate she never asked for and, despite being with her friends and loved ones, feels isolated and alone and everyone is blind to her suffering*

Fans: "Ruby's homophobic."

I honestly think you hit the nail on the head here and with Jaune being Ruby's Ultimate foil she's his they both highlight the similar and different ascpects of eachother. Jaune has been both Ruby's best foil and honestly her only real remaining support pillar ever since vol 3. He's been with her for so long even when her team wasn't. This question has been on my mind since this latest episode but in terms of Friendship's team WBY to Ruby seem more like coworkers/ friends from work where Jaune seems more like Ruby's actual best friend.
I mean think about it aside from Beacon (Which they spent most of their time chasing Roman/White fang) have they every really spent time together as a whole team outside of missions, just them getting to know eachother and learn more about eachother on a personal level? I think if Jaune had arrived at the same time as Ruby on the beach he'd know right away something isn't right with her simply because their much closer than WBY are to Ruby.
