A friend of mine calls Guy Fawkes the last guy to enter Parliament with completely straight-forward intentions.

I watch v for vendetta every year on November 5th, it's been a family tradition as long as I've known

Lol, so the answer to why Americans don't celebrate November 5th, a uniquely British holiday is.... Americans stopped being British.

In the USA, we observe November 5th as the day Doc Brown invented the flux capacitor

As you pointed out "something happened". That something as you reminded us was the American Revolution. We came to be on the side of blowing up Parliament.

Rather than all the bother that would cause we just gave up on celebrating a man being hanged and quartered. It's a matter of sensibilities.

Well, a lot of Catholics started coming to the US as well, especially English and Irish Catholics.

I remember the Fifth of November, but only after V for Vendetta came into my life.

I like how he talks, he's oetrct for hosting a documentary. I could listen to him for hours. Plus the content is very interesting although I already recently learned about it but I'd still listen.

“Remember remember the 5th of November.”
I don’t ‘celebrate’ it but I do watch the movie every year.

Guy Fawkes is amazing. I love his patriotism.

So essentially, America did celebrate the British holiday of Guy Fawkes Day when they were a part of the British Empire, and didn't celebrate it when they weren't.

Sounds legit.

i gotta say, my understanding of what we’re celebrating on november 5 and your understanding of what’s being celebrated on november 5 vary wildly

I practice Bonfire Night the same way I practice Christmas: By watching an action film.

I used to think of you just as this guy who fed my lingo craving - with this ine I see you are drilling down into a gap we seldom discuss at all in the US, even with having gone through a phase (1960s?) of loving everything British—
important bridge to build— thanks, you!
