Bayankina begins her series with The Canary, from Tchaikovsky’s Six Romances, Op. 25 –written in the spring of 1875, the lyrics drawn from a poem of the same name, by Russian poet Lev Mey. This is followed by the final song of Tchaikovsky’s Six Romances, Op. 63, entitled O Child! Beneath Your Window. Last but not least, Bayankina sings Liza’s aria from the opera The Queen of Spades, Op. 68, certainly the most well-known of the three pieces.

Maria Bayankina undertook her vocal studies at Moscow’s Gnessin Music Academy, attending from 2004 to 2009. She’s worked as a soloist at the Mariinsky Academy for Young Opera Singers in St. Petersburg since 2010, and made her Mariinsky Theatre debut in January of 2013, as Tsaritsa Militrisa in the opera The Tale of Tsae Saltan. Bayankina has received numerous prizes, and performed recitals in Rome, Venice, London, and St. Tropez.
