Getty was a piece of work, given his sheer money. He could have spent money for private investigators to deal with this.

Poor kid. His grandfather valued his $ more than his own grandchild.

This is such a sad story. I feel so bad for the grandson. That supposed grandfather is a disgusting POS!

He only agreed to pay $2.2million of the $3million ransom because 2.2million was the maximum amount that was tax deductible. He made his son take out a loan from him for the rest with 4% interest rate. Great human

What a loving Grandfather. I think I'd change my name and move away. Wouldn't want to be associated with the likes of him

Wow that grandfather was a total He charged interest to his son who loaned money to help pay his sons ransom like that's cold as hell!!

What they didn't say was Getty III was the mastermind of the kidnapping. But, he mis-judged the people he was dealing with. His grandfather suspected this and so refuses to pay.

Hey, nothing like close family, is there? And, he only charged his son 4%. Whata guy😜

There is so much missing to this story. In the end the grandfather was so upset that he lost the $2 million he refused to speak to the grandchild again. He was a cold hearted bastard that only paid because he was begged to by his family

Nice grandfather. He even kept a pay phone in his home for visitors as many would place long distance calls

One of his grandsons Andrew went to my high school Dunn. He was a really nice guy. Was really sad when I heard he’d passed away. I think the family dynamics must have been very difficult for him. Rest In Peace Andrew. I hope you finally found your peace. ❤️ you are missed.

Getty was released five months after being kidnapped. Getty developed an addiction to drugs and alcohol soon after, eventually leading to an overdose and stroke which left him severely disabled for the rest of his life. He died in 2011.

This young man went on to have a sad life after that trauma.

The question of the century is:
How much Money did grandpa Getty take with him to the GRAVE?

When Getty died he found out he couldn't take his money with him. Shame on him.

He was already messed up by a dysfunctional family. The kidnappers are responsible for nailing his coffin shut. The kidnappers cut his ear off and psychologically tutored him. He never recovered.

Gettys money meant more than his grandson. The only reason he paid anything was because it was made public.
