Sorting the F90 BMW M5, finding the soul of the beast

I have called the F90 BMW M5 a little boring, well for a 600hp car, today we look at three modified M5's to see if they come alive.

Backseats removed from this land barge is the most hilarious thing I’ve seen in a long time.

To me if you have reached the point where you are removing the seats from a BMW M5, maybe it's time to go buy a true sports car like a GT3 RS or something else. That just seems odd.

Removing the rear seats in a M5 seems...
... interesting, to say the least.
Great video, as always!

I think you’re missing the point of this car, it’s not meant to be the perfect drivers car. It’s a 4, 400 pound pig. It’s meant to be a comfortable daily that could act as a performance car when you want it to. I work at BMW and the majority of people who buy these cars are older men who consolidate their fun weekend car (911, Viper, etc.) and their daily into this one car. Just the other day an older man traded in his 997.1 GT3 & 535i for one of these. He admitted that the GT3 was a better driving experience; but he just never felt comfortable in it as he got older. If you want a pure drivers car the M2 is pretty much where it’s at. Pretty much the same size as my E46 M3 but with 500hp and brakes that are actually half decent.

The whole point of an M5 is that it’s an executive super saloon with ballistic speed and executive comfort. If you want to “feel the road” then you get an M3/M4. Obviously exhaust is something else but the refinement / comfort of this car is one of the biggest reasons it beats out the E63, which is way too stiff for an everyday car.

🙌🏽 🙌🏽 🙌🏽 🙏 thanks Nick! 🤣🤣 those monstrosity... For those wondering about the rear seat it was removed for testing purposes. There was no difference due to how light they are in the F90.

Loved Williams comment about German cars. Usually don't like red but that frozen red is cool. As always excellent video!

I had the joy of taking one of these around CoTA. Far from boring, and amazing the amount of grip these things have for their size.

I can't believe I'm about to say this...but I miss a good aviation video. I never knew I had any interest in aviation videos 'til you came around Nick!

Great vid! I actually think opposite about the M5 haha, for me the Competition package ruins it a bit, because of the harsher ride. Perhaps a non-comp with lowering springs would be a happy medium (the comp's solid subframe bushing are just too much). I previously owned an E60 530i an I loved it because it was both comfortable yet engaging to drive. While the F90 will never be as analog as BMWs of yesteryear I think the standard car achieves that (albeit to a much higher level than my old car haha) striking a great balance. Personally if I want something sportier I would simply go with an M3. The exhaust and tune look enticing, though, I have never once thought I needed more power behind the wheel of an F90, but I'd love to experience what that would be like!

Live in the Uk and had a 330d with a tuning box on. Interesting you say about tuning doing things to Bmw. As my idrive system failed three time’s in six months. I’ve always believed it was the engine tuning box. Too afraid now to put one on my new 530e

A couple of comments. First, I've never driven a car that was as engaging as a Porsche - either a 911 or Boxster. Lots of car can equal their performance. Heck, I can get a Mustang to hang with a Boxster or a 911 most of the time anyway. But nothing is so intoxicating as driving a P, even at 30 mph in a straight line. I once test drove a Boxster, and it was other worldly. The exhaust note sounded like a saxophone, the shifter was cushioned yet solid, and I could FEEL the transaxle turning through the shifter and the balance was PERFECT. The car stalled on the way back to the dealership. Neither of us could figure out how to restart it, so we had to push it back, and I STILL wanted it, it was that good! Fortunately or unfortunately, my thirst for Ps has been quenched . Would like to know what your opinion of the AMG GTC is.
