I have EXACTLY the same dilemma...I am trying to ascertain the identities of the parents of a paternal great grandmother.

I am looking for my 4rd great grandfather on paternal side. I think I know who it is, but can't prove it because of lack of documentation. Only DNA will be able to point to this person or not. A very convoluted history filled with out-of-wedlock births and wandering from state to state. It is fun, though, looking and reading all the history of my people.

I did mine on my heritage dna and I don’t know who my paternal grandfather was and still don’t know. Not a great grandfather. No my very first grandfather on my dad’s side. My dad doesn’t know who is own dad is.
