Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars 1996 - 2024 Comparison: Original vs Remaster & Reforged

In this video, I compare the latest version of the adventure game “Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars” with the original from 1996 and the Director's Cut from 2009 (in some countries the naming was "Broken Sword: Circle of Blood"). The original is one of the best classic point-and-click adventures of all time and, in addition to great graphics for the time, also offers an excellent story and beautiful puzzles. The 2009 Director's Cut offered slightly improved graphics, a help system and, above all, the opportunity to play from Nico's perspective for a few hours. However, it also changed or omitted some animations and text. The latest remake (or is it just a remaster?) from 2024 “Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged” builds more on the original, with redrawn graphics, original dialog and a help system, but unfortunately without the Nico chapters from the Director's Cut. If you haven't played the original and are a fan of adventure games, you should definitely play the Reforged version! What do you think?

If you pay close attention, behind george there is a drainage pipe the goes form bottom till the top in the reforged version (7:25) However, in the original in only reaches half the height of the wall (7:19).
In an interview with Cecil (game director), he said that "it had to pass 30 YEARS in order to correct that mistake".

This game it truly deserved a remaster

They really effed up with the Director's Cut - cutting so much content and crowbarring in new lines that felt completely out of place. Reforged, up to now, is a perfect and faithful remaster of the original game ❤

wow, the directors cut is just outright worse, holy shit. its nice to see that the Reforged version is pretty much the same as the original, i just bought all the games yesterday on GOG. Its a good thing that you get the original games as well with the remasters and directors cuts, otherwise i would be quite pissed. Had no idea about all the differences, and being a purist i always prefer the original vision of games.

I'm so glad that they based this on the original game. I forgot how weird the DC was!
I think the cutscenes gained the most from the "reforging". While the in-game graphic was timeless enough, those old low-res, low-fps Bink video files didn't age that well.
But pressing the space bar for the inventory? I loved the effordless way the inventory just appeared in the original game without any key- or button-press.

It just proves you don't need triple A games to enjoy games playing. These games are simply magical. Rolf Saxon is brilliant. I love these tough puzzle games. Can't wait for the physical release . Thanks Charles for polishing up this wonderful game.

I'm just so glad they remastered the original and not the DC, they altered a lot in the DC and the new art didn't match the original but I did enjoy the extra areas from DC.

Wow I never realised directors cut changed it so much. Seeing them side by side, I'm glad they stayed more faithful to the original.
