On February 27, 2021, the Prince William County Police Department held an internal, virtual remembrance ceremony to honor the life and sacrifice of Officer Ashley Guindon, who was killed in the line of duty 5-years ago in 2016. We want to take the opportunity share this ceremony held in her honor with our community who were also impacted by this tragedy. We remain forever grateful for the outpouring of support we received from our community this night and every day since. The Department also recognizes the tragic loss of Crystal Hamilton, who was also killed that evening. May the lives of these two remarkable women forever remain in our thoughts and prayers.

As a fellow Marine this hit me hard when I heard this tragic news back when it happened. To lose her life on her first day of duty hurt even more. Just by circumstance I got caught at the intersection as they were transporting her remains to Hylton Memorial Chapel. It was late in the evening and they shut down all traffic. A wall of Marines and veterans lined the intersection and stood at attention and saluted as her motorcade passed through. I, along with several other drivers shut off our cars, got out and did the same. It was touching to see and glad I got the opportunity to pay my respects. May this be a reminder to us all to never take a single day for granted.
