Loved this! Especially the tip about the little box for supplies you use every day. I kept putting them away, then spent time gathering them up again! Thank you!

My project list lives on my phone in a file on the notes app and I plan my daily sewing in the reminders app on my phone.

I had to get extremely organised when I lost most of my sight becoming diagnosed by medical definition to be blind 8.25 years ago. I still struggled with remembering what was in each storage box until I found some QR code labels last year so now I just scan the label to know where fabric, patterns, tools, etc are.

This year one file in notes is my plan for finishing some UFOs… I just finished the quilting on a project I started in November 2020, felt overwhelmed so put aside until September 2024, got it sandwiched at the beginning of October 2024, when I put it aside to make 2 Christmas gifts. On 2nd January I started the quilting. Monday I hope to start binding and be totally finished a week later.

This weekend I need a break from wrestling with the quilt and start organising my living room for when my daughter and grandson come to stay.

Simply sharing that today I mailed to my cousin's wife out-of-state as a Christmas present many pieces of leftover "scrap" fabric (plus bookmarks that you shared with us) for each of them. I recently learned from her that she loves making scrappy quilts, and I simply do not because I still struggle with my own quilting projects. These are nice scraps, and it also helped me be more organized.

Thanks Stacey for the tips. I like to stay organized also. My main problem right now, I need to declutter my sewing room. I still enjoy watching you. Hint: you are genuine and not fake. I so appreciate you.

Great hacks, Stacey. I have limited space in my sewing room, but even in a small space, one can organize well. All my sewing, knitting and crocheting tools have their space and after each session of Sewing, knitting or Crocheting they go back in their space. My Sewing table is always empty, and only the cutting mat is on there. My Sewing Machine lives on top of my chest of Draws. I have space to have my ironing board, always ready to press and iron. My fabric is neatly in my chest of draws, and my knitting and crocheting items live in another chest of Draws. I can not stand clutter, I can not function in a cluttered area, but, I am married to a man who can not part with anything * how is that for irony * so I get rid of those things for him when he is not around he does not even notice those things are gone.

Hi Stacey, the hack that’s new to me is the magnetic bowl you keep your presser feet in. That is so clever! I can’t find some of mine because they got separated from my original storage box and I ended up spending more money to replace them. I loved your video. So many great tips to help us all out. I’ll need to look for the storage bins you have for your fabric. I have so many remnants I bought from JoAnn’s that are still rolled up. Maybe I need to start there by pressing them out, filing them up and storing them away. That will help clean my cabinets, organize my fabric and allow me to finish my UFO’s I have hanging around. Thank you!!! 🌸💞🌸

I love your hack of the Michael's see-through boxes for each of our unfinished and ongoing projects. I keep mine stacked neatly on top of knitting yarn containers, and they do begin to grow topsy-turvy. I never know how to use my emailed Michael's rewards discount promos so they always expire. Now I know what to do with the next one I receive. Thank you, Stacey. Great video. Love the magnetic catch-all for sewing feet, tho right now I am using for my feet a Charm-size basket that I made a few years ago that sits on a table next to my sewing table in arm's reach. I keep the feet that I use most often in the basket, and the rest of them I keep in a plastic school pencil box at the bottom open space of the table.

Thanks for these simple but affective reminders. After watching this video, I cleaned out a pencil cup and got rid of older pens and other things in that cup. Next, a drawer that is part of my sewing desk.

This video has the absolutely best way of decluttering mentioned! Too many declutter videos say if you don't want/use it get rid of it right away. Murphy's Law dictates you'll find you need at least one of those items because you'd forgotten it was for a certain project and have to repurchase it, or a currently used item broke and you need a replacement. I agree that instead of immediately donating/trashing items, keep them around (not for forever) in case they are needed down the road.

Metal feet in a magnetized dish: just be careful as the metal in the feet can themselves become magnetized. If you have a computerized machine don't get magnets close to the screen as it can wipe it out and your machine will be permanently ruined. Also, just because this works for some machines doesn't mean it will work for all machines because different computerized machines have different shielding in different locations on the machines, including the bobbin area. It's why I also discourage magnetized scissor holders on computerized machines. (Note: I worked in IT for close to 20 years.)

I do the same for fabric management but use a plastic basket for audition fabrics and another plastic basket for fabric that's been used so is no longer the original size. I have to figure out if I want to cut it down further or if such a small amount was used that I could "sneak" it back into the original size storage location where it came from (back into yardage for example).

I have 16 of those "kit cases" and they are fantastic!

I do a deep clean of my sewing studio after every large project (think quilt or Tudor dress) but not after a little project.
Also, the best vacuum is a clean black piece of fabric that falls on the floor. Ask me how I know.

Really great tips! I have my fabric plus my mom's bags of fabric. 2025 is when I get organized!

Thanks Stacey. Another excellent video full of time-saving tips. My favorite is the folding of fabrics (video you did last year) to make storage of them not only space saving, but easier to view within the storage boxes.

Great video with practical tips and ideas. I kept putting off cleaning my space for cutting and finally decided I was tired of moving things around to make space. Found it made such a difference and really feel I finished that project quicker. Thanks so much!

The bin to put extra fabric until you get a chance to put away. That would definitely free up space, i need to do this!

Thank you very much for your tips. The one I like the most is to set aside things you’re not using into your garage and see if you go looking for them in six or 12 months. I have lots of irons 0:52 now since I bought two steam stations, and I need to let go of at least two. after I so I do clean up, and set up what I’m gonna sew the next day. And I do have a home for everything so that’s not a hard thing to do. The one things I use daily are in a stand. The other ones I use occasionally are in a drawer next to my machine. The rulers I use all the time within reach of my cutting table. The templates were routers I don’t use so often are set aside somewhere else. I don’t have a box, but I have my little caddy that is upright. All my feet are in a compartment box labeled to that machine. I have three machines in my sewing area, which I use a lot.
