Young northern water snake

I used to have one of these for a pet. Very calm and gentle, no teeth, just ate fish. I used to go out with her coiled around my arm and she would just chill there.

Do they go under water or no ? Because I just catch a snake at the river and it looks like this with more white and she goes under water too like she hides under the river rocks and swims under water and now I don’t know if is a northern water snake or a poisonous
