I didn’t realize how many references were in this song until i looked into the lyrics!!! Like the line about nettles stinging and not all apples being white; the people who ran the cult were called Bonnie Nettles and Marshall Applewhite. Wow just wow, the lyricism is crazy detailed.

Y’know, I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for about a week now. I only just realized this song is talking about the Heaven’s Gate cult.

I originally thought it was just a song about leaving a toxic religion, but now it makes so much more sense, considering all the ties back to the death dates, the leaders, the philosophy… good god, this is dark, but so good!

I nearly cried when i heard this the first time. I felt like someone reached back in time and held my hand. I felt pulled from the dark and I felt seen because this entire song ran me through like a river through a canyon

I know this song is about a Heaven’s Gate Cult, but this really reminds me of how I’m no longer Christian/I’m atheist. This is probably my favorite line because I connect with it so much : “Was I the only one to question anything they said..? I take it back, I’ll follow till I fly or till I’m dead”. I love this line so much, because it reminds me of how, people try to convert me to Christianity as soon as they find out I’m an Atheist. I remember thinking “Was I the only one to question anything they said..?”.

So! Thank you, for making a song that so many people connect with, from Christians, to Atheists like my self. Thank you.
