I have the 8 plus. Is the xs max better in terms of camera? Yes. Is it worth to pay that much money? Hell no. I mean even side by side the 8 plus still makes fantastic photos.

I have the iPhone XS Max and I don’t like the front camera, pictures just look in such bad quality specially if you turn on the flash. My sister has the iPhone 8 Plus and I like it better.

8 plus still great. Smart hdr on XS is good but makes colours too vibrant. I like Hdr+ more on Pixel 2.

What was HDR set to on both cameras? Off, On or Auto? I almost always set my HDR manually, and feel that a lot of the sky deficiencies in the 8 plus would disappear if HDR was set to on.

Sadly you didn't mention the larger sensor on the Xs Max. On some of your pics, it was too obvious that it is bigger - the natural background blur is more, compared to the 8 Plus.

I agree with other comentators. You didn’t use HDR on Iphone 8. Everything to make Iphone XS better because it’s new. Sorry but it’s not better.
