Venezuela has some of the largest known reserves of oil in the world - yet its economy is in an ongoing crisis. There are widespread shortages of basic goods, rising levels of crime - and growing political violence. The government of President Nicolas Maduro is blaming the influence of the United States - which has been highly critical of Mr Maduro's leadership.

Always blaming America for every thing. If we were helping and sending food then they would be complaining we are there. Don't get me wrong my heart hurts for people of Venezuela. However...America isn't to blame it's their own government. I pray something gives soon and they get necessary food and supplies.

I feel really bad about this.Talk about deplorable living conditions, I see a revolution drawing near. The people have to stand up against their seemingly autocratic/communist government. This is waaay beyond Third world conditions.I live in the Philippines where we are considered Third world but Venezuela is nothing like we have here.

I experienced this for myself when i went to venezuela a year ago to visit family. I wasn't in a fancy hotel (not that there aren't any) vacationing like a tourist. i was in a house in el barrio spending 3 months experiencing what they experience everyday. it was hard to find milk and other normal goods that we normally find in our super markets in the U.S. the lines were extremely long I waited in line for an hour and a half just to buy a warm gatorade. all car dealerships were empty because none want to invest in the country because of its economic problems. Its sad and the poor people get it the worse. I wish i could bring all my family to live here in the U.S but its not easy.   #PrayforVenezuela   #godblessVenezuela  Que viva venezuela

This is so typical blame the United States fro every problem in the world. Venezuela wanted socialism well they got it now deal with the consequences. The rest of the world needs to accept responsibility for their actions not the United States for your problems. Deal with it.

Inflation is generated from huge public spending and declining domestic production . That is all.

I hope the people in Venezuela can work out their problems. It is going to be a hit to many American business there, if the government there think they can handle the situation, nationalize everything. Cut their line of credit to the US and become a cash and carry country. I would not want to see this but if it will get the US out of being blamed for their problems, so be it.

What will happen to the people of Venezuela? Where do they go from here? The price of oil has to be hurting the mid-eastern countries as well. I feel bad for all these people. When people are starving, tensions rise. I hope that things improve for them and soon.

If there is one thing 1984 has taught leaders of the world for centuries.  Always blame some fictional "enemy" that is going to attack.  Wasn't until today I realized how much insight that book has.

Can anyone recall the days when Hugo Chavez gave the citizens of the Northeast United States free gas during the winter months?

The problem is government management of the economy period. The economy is organic, and shouldn't be centrally managed by anybody. All an economy is is individuals exchanging goods, and services. An economy grows from individual time preferences (interest rate), savings, investments, competition, supply, demand, profit, and loss. This is what makes an economy, not government intervention, control of prices, and propping up failing institutions.

He wants sugar? He can have it. I don't touch sugar, it is fattening. I do my best to avoid sugar. Cow milk isn't all that desirable either.
