Inspired by the Bronze Age Egtved girl burial, I plan the project and choose materials. Step one, sort and spin a Castlemilk Moorit fleece.

just wanted to let you know how much i appreciate your videos. i've been dealing with severe depression for the last many years.... i've had real trouble finding energy or motivation to play with anything fiber arts for a long time now, despite it being a real joy for me before the depression hit. your videos have been inspiring me to pull things out and play a bit. it's always a little bit better of a day when i see one of your videos in my feed. thank you.

I can’t wait to see more! I’ve woven a blouse similar, but that skirt both fascinates and intimidates me. A really lovely video.

Thank you for keeping this tradition standing. My grandma used to make blankets and ''jellaba'' moroccan dress. Wonderful

I want to thank you! I wanted to learn how to spin for years! But no space to put a spinning wheel. First time that I saw these spindels in the video here with you, and just a few days ago I saw 2 old spindels, (in good condition they say, and they look good to me...), for sale cheap on the second hand market. So I bought them, and went looking for wool, knowing near nothing about it. The wool just came in. I was blown away to find I bought 3 huge bags of beautiful sheeps, and lambs wool for peanuts! I was not expecting to get that much!!! Now I am waiting for the spindels to come in, and than I will try what you do here... I want to learn it all, how to work with the wool from the sheep to wool for a sweater! Thank you so much! I am FINALLY able to learn how to spin! Have a beautiful day! Much love!

ancient sheep would shed their fleece all over the place hence the term "wool gathering". It's only in fairly recent times that sheep have been bred to need shearing.

for anyone wanting to try this you dont need a fleece to teach yourself how to do this go to any store the sells 100% cotton balls and use those then you can dye it to the color you want. this how i taught myself and my son it works the same way and make wonderful thread.

This is fantastic! I've only ever read about string skirts and not seen an example. (The book is Women's Work the First 20, 000 Years) To see an example makes the reading more real in my mind.

I hope you continue the project! I'd really like to make one of these myself...and I would definitely appreciate your tutorial. Love, love, love your videos. I've been applying what you teach me about how my ancestors processed fibers to the invasive plants in my home. Making a thorn comb for bast from my local invasive trifoliate orange! Can't wait to try it on Kudzu fiber.

Sally I love your videos thank you so much. I love that you have such an informative natural style without the polish and plazas of some ! It gives me confidence to try things…..and it’s lovely to be with you in your wild and human ways. I’d love to meet you and work with you some day….who knows! Much love x

What is the purpose of a string skirt? It doesn't keep you warm. It doesn't protect your backside from bugs, sharp rocks, etc. I doubt it provides much in the way of modesty. Would this have been a purely ceremonial/funerary garment?
