Silly Symphony – The Night Before Christmas (1933) – Buena Vista reissue titles

Before the recreated titles to The Night Before Christmas were made in 2006, this version was the standard one. I was reminded how odd its opening titles look by Mitchell Hang, who also sent me this transfer. It starts with a Buena Vista logo and fanfare that suggest a mid-1960s theatrical reissue, but then the Silly Symphony logo is the 1937 version, which had not been used since the re-release of Three Little Pigs in 1948. This has been a mystery to me for many years. When were these titles made? Was it a non-theatrical reissue first, and then the same version was used theatrically with the BV logo added? I have found no records of it being reissued, in any form, in the 1950s or 1960s.

Also seen in “A Walt Disney Christmas” VHS from 1981 where it used the same reissue titles with no BV logo and fanfare from “Son of Flubber”.

Thanks for the upload, but there is a typo: “Cause” should be “Clause.”

My best guess for this Buena Vista reissue for this cartoon could be from either 1964 or 1965 as a “Cartoon Special” before “Three Little Pigs” got it’s 1968 BV reissue as a “Cartoon Special” using the 1948 RKO reissue as that reissues’ source. Now as for an RKO Silly Symphony, The Moth and the Flame(1938) and The Old Mill ( the first RKO Silly Symphony, 1937) are the latest and last Silly Symphonies to be reissued when reissued on May 31st, 1973 by BV using their respective RKO reissues from October 27th, 1950 and August 24th, 1951 as their sources. The Old Mill was reissued one more time in the UK in front of a 90’s reissue of Bambi using the 73 BV reissue with the 1950 RKO reissue source.

Ending in a Night Before Christmas like in a Santa's Workshop (1932)

One of these days, when I get a new laptop, I wanna make my own version of these titles, giving them more of a "christmas theming" to them.

You can make this opening and closing with a 16mm IB Technicolor print, not from DVD?

Even more strange they didn't do anything with the end titles.... 🤔 Although considering reissues of most Silly Symphonies, I guess that's to be expected, unless it's from the late 30's.
