Border Gateway Protocol - 10 : BGP Summary

- BGP is designed to be used between autonomous systems, such as on the Internet. However, is can also be used within an autonomous system, such as a large corporate LAN.
- BGP only communicates with BGP peers. At startup, BGP routers exchange complete databases.
- BGP does not send periodic updates - updates are only sent when a network change occurs.
- BGP assigns a value of preference to a link based on a matrix of parameters such as distance, bandwidth, delay, etc.
