Miles told a story about Red who once to tossed his suit case out of the second story window of the hotel he stayed in for the gig duration. He would try to negotiate with the hotel clerk to reduce the bill due to short comings in the room such as insufficient hot water, lumpy mattress etc. When the clerk reused to budge Red would say he was going to get the money to check out and the clerk would place a lock on the room so to speak. Red would split and skip on the bill. That is but one of the ways he could afford his costly smack habit. Still his music was awesome. I used to catch his eye in Birdland from the peanut gallery and applaud his outstanding solos! He always smiled back! <<<3

Yeah it's true solitude ……………….<3
In my solitude
You haunt me
With dreadful ease
Of days gone by
In my solitude
You taunt me
With memories
That never die
I sit in my chair
And filled with despair
There's no one could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I'll soon go mad
In my solitude
I'm afraid
Dear Lord above
Send back my love
I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
There's no one
Could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I'll soon go mad
In my solitude
I'm afraid
Dear Lord above
Send me back my love
Edward Kennedy Ellington YEAH!

Nice to hear Trane with a different pianist that gives his playing a new color to it.

But McCoy's the true master

Trane when playing straight ahead is exemplary. Once the hen house fox rants begin I'm outta there! I saw him beaucoup times in Birdland and that style is something entirely different! <<<3

Byrd was great!  I thought it was Clifford Brown.
