Residents in Johannesburg and Tshwane have been hit by serious water shortages. High demand, load shedding and power outages have been cited as reasons for the shortages.
Several reservoirs in the capital remain critically low, affecting most residents in the Eastern and Northern suburbs. While parts of Johannesburg have had intermittent supply, there has now been a reduction of supply to several pump stations after a power outage at Rand Water's Eikenhof pump station on Sunday morning.
Tens of thousands of residents in Gauteng are without water.
Roodepoort, Randburg, Southdale and Soweto were without water today after a substation caught fire in Eikenhoff resulting in a power outage that affected the Eikenhoff pump station
taps in parts of Tshwane have also run dry as some of the reservoirs have run down.
