This debate has drawn me back on another thought. Why? In Ghana about 90% of the people speak and understand Twi culminating with other related dialects all classified as Akan. So we are all living in harmony with each other communicating in Akan. There should be no fuss about it.

We maintain the English, only the southern Ghana will think Akan. I wish we all soeak Ewe 😂😂😂

A white guy asked what is Ghana first language I told him is twi n he was challenging me so I told English is only on paper but for real twi is the most spoken language in Ghana

In Ghana it won't ever happen cos internally we are divided and no one would love to make the others language superior over the other

Yes Twi is the language speaking in all the regions in Ghana so we must use it

Ghana has already done that. When I was growing up in Ghana, the working language or official language is English. You hardly hear Twi on the television. Everybody spoke English when speaking to someone of a different tribe.
Now it seems we’ve all adopted Twi which is fair, as that is the majority spoken dialect.
I think Ghana is fine as it is. We need English to trade. That does not mean we let them back in for a second leg of colonisation.

changing language or cutting ties with colonial past is of no constitutional review, killing of corruption, sensible policies and patriotism is what matters

Everyone in Ghana knows the answer. Not even a debate !

We can choose or add Hausa and Kiswahili to our official language as Ghanaians/Africans are multi- linguals already. It will bring us closer together but it doesn’t mean we shall or must discard our local languages. We should also speak a couple of international languages such as Chinese, Russian, etc., to be able to communicate efficiently during business meetings with international traders. 😅. We should not drop English abruptly but ensure the young not learn the new languages at school to be able to gently phase out English.

Let's maintain the English. We don't have any special ties with England that needs cutting. It's our attitude and mentality that we need to change, not our official language

TWI is NOT only for ASHANTI's. TWI is an AKAN Language. The Akan people include: Adansi, Agona, Akuapem, Akwamu, Akyem, Anyi, Asante, Baoulé, Bono, Chakosi, Fante, Kwahu, Sefwi, Wassa, Ahanta, Denkyira and Nzema, among others. I think every language should be respected but the AKAN and DAGBANI should be the Official Languages of the country because they're the most dominant. Approximately 177 languages are Indigenous to the United States but English is the official language because it's the most dominant.

Ghanaians don’t follow blindly. Even though majority of Ghanaians speak and understand twi, we should not revert to dictatorship. English is a universally acknowledged language which is fluently taught and spoken in Ghana. In all our schools English is the language predominantly taught to relate ideas which gives us access to global leadership. The most vital medium of communication. Yes, majority of the people in the Maghreb speak Hausa and Arabic that doesn’t have to spur on to run amok.
Ghana is an elite country and we have to look before we leap.
This is my opinion.

As a Nigerian, I'm surprised Twi hasn't been made the sole official language. From my research, about 80% of the population speak the language. I wish my country had an indigenous language that was as widespread as Twi. Hausa is a close contender here, but it's only dominant in the Hausa-belt; but, it does have some potential.

I'm a Ghanaian Muslim but I think Twi as the majority in Ghana

Ghana can also use Hausa since it's spoken by Muslims all over Ghana. It is not ethnic related. It will help us communicate with other countries.

i will suggest we use ewe, because we can easily cross borders with it, like, Togo and Benin
