Beekeeping for beginners installing my first bee package

This is my first bee package. I decided not to cut anything out, so you can see exactly what I did. I'm sure I made mistakes, but I am happy to take advice. Let me know in the comments below.

When I first got mine I did exactly as you did. Now an easy way is to just put the Queen on a frame with a rubberband, then just set the package in with it open inside of a second brood box. They will all move out during the night without shaking them. Great job though and best of luck.

I always just remove five frames and shake the entire package in the box. Replace the frames and stick your Queen in between the frames where the screen portion is not being blocked by the frame. This lets a lot more of the Queen's pheromones permeate throughout the box and does not restrict the airflow. I also spray my bees with a little bit of sugar water before dumping them in the box. This helps to keep them from flying as they are cleaning each other up and more concerned about that and flying away and stinging you LOL. What help me was? When my dad past and i seen all his bee equpiment! That what really got me into it. Rite at perfect timing of CCD. there was no honey bees any where for 5 yrs One day out in the garden i seen one! Said to my self if there 1 ~ There got to be more! So i got on line, Made a home made swarm trap ! BOOM 5 days later a swarm! That what got me into it!

Good video. You seemed a little nervous. I would have removed enough frames to set the cage of bees in the bottom box. Three days later remove box and replace frames in the bottom box. I also would have sprayed the bees down with a little sugar water to limit flying bees while getting the queen out to place in box. Thanks for sharing. Your friend Bryan

I read all the comments people made so far. All I'll add is I got nervous when you shook bees off the queen cage while removing her from the package. I'd want to treat her as gentle as possible.
There's 2 things I'm happy you didn't do. You didn't use smoke with a new package and you didn't spray them with sugar water. Smoke could alarm a new package unnecessarily. Spraying them with liquid could chill them IF the air temp is a little too cool.
I'll watch more so I can learn new skills.

I never bought any bugs LMAO most of the time the beginner losses them! Durning winter or by letting them swarm off> They start out buying every thing too, rather than making it> Its very easy to make your own equpiment and it better built too> Just buy a smoker Hell i used a spoon for a hive tool LMAO my 1st bee suit was a motorcycle coveralls with a mosquito veii. Cause i didn't know i wanted to do it or not
