BAKU - South Asia is a region of contrast. Some nations will be fixated with security and financial concerns. Yet, others will find themselves in the centre of a geopolitical chessboard, with Russian, Chinese, American and Indian pieces moving all over the place. Meanwhile, local politicians will seek to exploit the growing nationalist sentiment to advance their own political agendas. This and more we will go over in the 2017 analysis for South Asia.

It’s hard to believe that South Asia was the richest region in the planet for 1600 years (approx)
I am happy it’s rising again . Hopefully it can achieve its ancient glory once again very soon .

1. You missed out on Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives while included Central Asia
2. Karachi footage shown for Indian Cities
3. No mention of tensions over CPEC or Balochistan
4. Chabahar port project could have been mentioned for Afghanistan part

You were spot on. Our internal politics is one big mess here in Sri Lanka. Because of this, our credibility from a perspective of foreign policy is at stake.

You missed Nepal, situated between India and China, an important country in South Asia geopolitics.

I dont understand why central asian countries like kazakistan is mentioned. They have no relevance to south asia more to china. Nepal however is big battleground between india, china, eu and us for influence with the advent of democracy. shirvan missed it. Bhutan too has interesting dynamics. Myanmar could be included more as it does affect south asia directly.

For India to have more reforms India needs to re-elect Modi in 2019 and needs to reduce tensions with Pakistan . India requires infrastructure to the tune of 1.5 trillion dollars till 2024 while India only invests 180 billion dollars per year on her infrastructure, also India needs to increase indigenous content in her, military and stop depending upon imports, India is already the largest importer of arms for the last 10 years, also India needs to create 100 million jobs by 2024.

All that footage really humanizes the geopolitics. It's not just news or statistics, it's people's lives that are effected by laws and governments.

Your videos are always enlightening Shirvan.
But was the world's analysis always that depressing or are we really living in an exceptionally tough time?

Each and every States in India and Pakistan is like a country... its actually an achievement.... instead of 9 countries in South Asia... We r actually 45 somthing countries living together considering that... so South Asia is like a continent unlike other part of Asia... Big problems are Poverty, Overpopulation, Climate Change Kashmir, Terrorism, Infrastructure ....Though Over population is the Single Biggest Problem here

Why do people include Afghanistan in South Asia but exclude Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives?

Afghanistan IS NOT South Asian, they're Central Asian or Middle Eastern linguistically, geographically, ethnically and politically.

Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives are obvious and have sizeable populations with sizeable economies

2:29 You are talking about New Delhi (India) yet showing Karachi
2:40 Again you are showing Karachi, instead of Mumbai
2:48 Yet again showing Karachi, How can you mess this up ? that monument is literally one of Pakistans most famous landmark, its the burial place of Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah
