5 JavaScript Projects You Should Build as a Web Developer

Especially if you are looking for a new job, or you are a junior developer or looking to swap jobs. These will give you a better result than any CV or Resume can ever do. They will work as real-world examples of your programming and development skills.

It's a way to introduce yourself through your real work and code in HTML, CSS and JS.

The 1st on the list is your own portfolio, which should introduce you as a website developer. It shows your web design and development skills as it shows your personality with you via your code. The way you implement this, if it's by bootstrap, or written from scratch shows how you work.

2nd is a weather application that can work with an API, connect to a frontend or backend, and display it with code or functions. Creating a function to convert C to K and adding testing show you know what you're doing.

3rd is a directory service, such as maybe a movie app or tv show listing to show you can store data in an array, or object or database. Being able to sort and search and filter through this data later is just as important.

4th is clone of a FAANG website, things like facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. If you're able to replicate something popular like that, it shows you have the skills visually to replicate sites for real clients.

5th is your own personal project. Something you are interested in, a web development app or idea such as nike, or bitcoin, or stat tracking. It gives you an insight into who you are and what you enjoy.

Very nice and motivating video. I have a two single page websites, one multi page website, todo and weather apps on my personal portfolio website for now. Currently, i'm doing portfolio website for my brother who is a freelance photographer. I hope next year i will finally get a job as junior front end developer.

Actually I am a good developer but the thing is that I do not have a good imagination to design websites. I can create them using html and css if I have a design, but designing them by myself is someting way too hard for me.

So here in the US it’s like this - make portfolio, apply for jobs, initial interview, then another then another then the final one then the rejection email. During that time you suggest to look at your portfolio. Some look and most rarely comment on it. ‘ They’ are more interested in if you know mid level to senior programming concepts and algorithms that you will rarely use. Once hired, you’ll realize that you wasted your time studying coding terms, algorithms. and portfolios.

Hey Adrian, I am also in Au, Melbourne. I am trying to learn new skill of web development. I find your videos extremely useful, I am just starting, I bought a course on udemy. i am finding Javascript a bit challenging, even though I am Electrical Engineer and did some C and embedded systems back in uni, that was 10 years ago though. Hello Adrian, I actually recently got an internship, I'm doing frontend stuff there for now, but I will soon have to pick up the backend stuff, where should I learn it from? Making APIs, and just the general basics? I'm good with React, and JavaScript in general, and my employer said we will be using Node. I would appreciate any kind of advice, thanks.
