"Nothing Compares 2 U" single released in 2018

The following is previously unseen rehearsal footage of Prince & The Revolution from the summer of 1984. It was in this very room at Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie, Minnesota that Prince created and committed to tape one of his most beloved and iconic compositions, which six years later would become a worldwide hit for Sinead O’Connor. Prince’s original studio version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" is presented here for the first time.

Video directed by Andrea Gelardin and Ruth Hogben.

Folks I will say it again, you have it reversed, Prince is not covering this song, Prince wrote Nothing Compares 2 U in 1984, Sinead did her cover version in 1990. Here are some other songs you may not be aware of that Prince wrote, and either gave away, or that were covered by other artists. The list is huge, these are just a few. Manic Monday covered by the Bangles, this song was originally recorded as a duet with Apollonia, and some of the music/backup vocals by Brenda Bennet are still in place on The Bangles released version. I Feel For You covered by Chaka Khan, written by Prince in 1979 and released on his 2nd album of that same year. He gave a song called With This Tear to Celine Dion. The Glamorous Life and Love Bizarre on Sheila E's albums (and 95% of the other songs on those albums), is all Prince. Same for The Time with Jungle Love and The Bird. He gave a song called U to Paula Abdul for her Spellbound album. Sugar Walls was a song of his that he gave to Sheena Easton. For the song Stand Back, Stevie asked him to come to the studio to listen to the song, and that is where in 25 minutes, Prince laid out the entire keyboard track for the song, that is him playing on the track. Could go on forever, Prince was everywhere in music, most of which he never took credit for or cared to brag about. Peace

I grew up only a couple of miles from Prince's stomping grounds. I had numerous encounters with him as it was inevitable in the relatively small town of Chanhassen. He watched me pitch a little league game from underneath a tree at Lake Ann park near his home. I delivered pizzas to his house and to his studio numerous times when I was in high school. I was witness to his intimate late night impromptu shows at Paisley Park more times than I can count on two hands. Anyone who might suggest that he isn't the greatest live performer of all time simply hasn't seen him in concert.

Prince, has one of the most amazing vocal ranges in history, 6 octaves. He wrote so many famous songs and just gave many of them away. Played appropriately 27 instruments. Known for his intellect and talent. A true legend.

That footwork, those smiles, his playfulness, his unending drive to give us the best of him, we will carry this forward. This was Prince. 💜💜💜

Prince wrote this song and performs it brilliantly.
Sinead covered it beautifully too.
Bless them both... 😢

Only a handful of musicians can write multiple hit singles.
Only a handful of musicians can play flawless lead guitar.
Only a handful of musicians have an octave range of G1 to G7.
Only a handful of musicians can move like an acrobat.
VERY few musicians can do any of these things WELL.
Prince did them all... At. The. Same. Time.
His genius is unequaled.

This makes me cry. I dont care what anyone says, Prince was such a rarity. I still cry over his loss. He understood more than people realised. It wasnt just as a black man, but so much more. He seen his mother abused, he'd been abused, felt like an outsider to his own race at times and his own sexuality. To me as a part Native American woman whom always have felt as an outsider to all parts of herself, Prince helped me to accept my uniqueness. To embrace my ownself and be open and acceptining of love and friendship. I will forever mourn such a amazing human being. He was a person for all people

It's my personal opinion that Prince was likely the most complete rock star we've ever had the pleasure of listening to and be entertained by -- he was an elite-level singer, songwriter, instrumentalist (of multiple instruments), composer, producer, lyricist, dancer, performer, choreographer, and showman.

A very few in the history of late 20th and early 21st Century western pop music (all genres from rock, R&B, C&W, soul, hard rock, metal, and so on) can claim to score straight-A's on all of those categories -- Prince is one of those few and may, in fact, be the only one who can.

Prince may be the greatest all around artist. The electric guitar, the exquisite song-writing, the pitch-perfect, instantly recognizable voice and, probably most importantly, those DANCE MOVES! I'm 36, too young to truly know Prince, but he was definitely a genius.

I had always heard this song was written by Prince. But because we have lost Sine’ade I decided to see if Prince actually sang the song and I found this video. His voice is hauntingly beautiful. Prince was incredibly talented. I saw him in 1984 in Lakeland Florida. Best concert I’ve ever seen. May God rest both of their souls.

Prince Rogers Nelson, what a musical and instrumental genius! Such an underrated guitarist and lyricist. He taught himself how to play 27 different instruments!!! 27!!! I cant even name that many. I hope he found peace in heaven that he couldn't find on Earth. RIP dear Prince.
