Finally you are using an expansion chamber for your CO2! I have been commenting this for years but it's never been noticed. CO2 stored at pressure is often a liquid and it needs room to boil off so that it can be used most efficiently as a propellant gas. The more surface area there is to transfer heat into the liquid the more work you can get out of the CO2. If you put some small steel ball bearings in there it would work even better for expansion of the gasses.

Make a smaller compressor. Use something like pre-natal ventilator, they are tiny and can probably keep up with the demand if you have a holding tank

Paint gun bottles, they use C02 dry ice. In aluminum, fire extinguisher container will also do the same trick. Just replace the nozzle.
Do not forget to clean it out first. You can get dry ice at the fire station or at your local grocer.
Call around to grocers first.
Or have your wife go to the fire station? Those give her the dry ice for free. But it could roughly cost you about $5 a gallon. Also, do not forget to put a double wool. Cozy around the fire extinguisher or you will get stuck to it. The cozy should be emergency blanket. Wool rap, emergency blanket, wool rap, emergency blanket, stitch it all together. Although you could go with nagahide on the outside.

Does the soda bottle expansion chamber boost the efficiency more than using a simple pressure regulator? If allowing the CO2 to expand and absorb heat from increased surface area of the bottle helps it increase its pressure, could a heatsink do so more efficiently, with less failure points, and make the engine more portable?
