Billy Watkins - The Ice-Man - Era : 3183 (45s)
RAREST OF THE RARE - STOCK COPY!
One of the most beautiful ones - total eye-candy for the Northern Soul stock copy connoisseur.
But not only hyper-rare, it is also an absolutely gorgeous vinyl-vista, for those dedicated Northern Soul scholars in pursuit of the seriously rare STOCK copies like the coveted black RCA's. A challenging task that so many of you are still drawn to, patiently waiting for decades for the right disc to come to market.
So here is another classic Northern Soul anthem from the desk of that man who never compromises on his studio productions. H. B. Barnum again whips up a mighty torrent of Northern Soul , incorporating a full-blown girl choir, driven by an high-octane orchestra. From the very first blast of triumphant brass, listen how H. B. brings those girls up to the boil, from the off, their squealing red-hot choruses cradle Billy's rich vocal with ear-piercing replies to his cheeky innuendoes, H. B. showers the flow with pelting vibes and his specialty of hard hitting piano keys.
No wonder this percolating fun NS dancer was such a favourite with the crowd through the mid-70's, its over-the-top H.B. kitchen-sink production is hard to higher vinyl vista. As is the image of "Billy in his blue, black and green clothes with a splash of yellow and a white bar, set inside that seldom seen birth-sleeve.
Irresistible!
