1909: Apache Chief Geronimo Dies #nightmare #history
Geronimo dies of pneumonia in Fort Sill, Oklahoma at the age of 79. An historic Apache leader, Geronimo spent his life resisting both Mexican and American military forces seeking to take his people’s territory and restrict their way of life. Though he frequently broke out of Native American reservations, Geronimo eventually surrendered to U.S. troops in 1886 and spent the last 14 of his life largely constrained to the Comanche and Kiowa reservation.

His autobiography is well worth reading. And yes, he was photographed many times. On his occasional trips to washington, he would sell souvenirs to the other passengers, even the buttons from his coat.

He spent his life fighting a good war,

From what I have read the Apache Rebellion was a brutal war of attrition.

When I looked at him " I saw my mom s mom and some other folks in my family and I see me I lived on the reservation of San Carlos.
I would like to see the story of him coming from Florida though Alabama hiding among the black people who gave him aide in his flight. A Great Native A Warrior of America.
