DARK History of the Ministry of Magic - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the history of the British Ministry of Magic. Of course, there are A LOT of things that took place there throughout the Harry Potter series. But today, we’ll be focusing on what happened PRIOR to our dear boy Harry showing up on the wizarding scene.

Formed in 1707, the British Ministry of Magic is the main governing body of the magical community of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was created to preserve magical law within Great Britain and represent these countries to the larger Wizarding World. Its formation came as a direct result of the previously created Wizards' Council.

“Prior to 1707, the Wizards’ Council was the longest serving (though not the only) body to govern the magical community in Britain. After the imposition of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1692, however, the wizarding community needed a more highly structured, organised and more complex governing structure than they had hitherto used, to support, regulate and communicate with a community in hiding. “

This, of course, led to what is now known as the Ministry of Magic.

Theory Idea: What if Dumbledore became Minister of Magic?

You forgot Eldritch Diggory, who served as Minister for Magic between 1733 and 1747. Diggory was horrified by the inhuman conditions of Azkaban prison becuz so many prisoners there died of despair or went insane from the presence of the Dementors. He formed a committee to explore alternatives to Azkaban or at least remove the Dementors as guards. Alas, it was argued that depriving the Dementors of a food source would cause them to seek nourishment on the mainland, which terrified too many, and unfortunately Diggory died in office after contracting Dragon Pox in 1747, and so the committee and notions Diggory had proposed ultimately led to nothing.

You know. Speaking of the Ministry, a video about how they enforced the Taboo and the Trace would be interesting, I would assume the magic involved is quite similar. But they're so vague about it in the books it's prime real estate for theorizing

I’ve always wondered about the lives of wizard children before age 11. Are wizard children are taught muggle subjects before Hogwarts. I mean they have to be good at math with their money lol do they go to muggle school before Hogwarts? Probably not but then how do they learn that stuff? What about working moms? Are there wizard daycares 🤔 Theory video on this please ❤

Suggestion for the next What If video: What if Remus Lupin was made Secret Keeper instead of Pettigrew? I mean Sirius was the obvious choice, and as we know Pettigrew was a traitor. But what if it was Remus? How would things play out?
