Hi Chris,
I appreciate your video tips very much, as a devoted subscriber.
This *Load and Explode* tip is the best one of all, one reason being that, instead of "hanging back", it gets one to swing "down and thru" the ball and the turf, and ultimately up to a high finish - which, if one gets the high finish correct then a lot of other good things will happen naturally during the entire swing.
...
So, I think you may find this interesting. It falls into the categories of "happenstance" and "necessity is the mother of invention":
After my tee shot, I found my ball, offline, in the rough, on the downside of a severe grass bunker, and about 230 yards from the green. Now, being a high-handicap golfer at the time, I take my stance - again, on a severe downhill lie - with a 5-iron in hand, while just trying to make solid contact and possibly advance to the ball say, 170 yards, to an area in the fairway 30 yards from the front of the green.
...
Well, I swing the club and make an usually square strike and advance the ball about 200 yards - not just 170 yards, but a full 200 yards. I fall forward off the severe downhill lie onto flat ground, continue taking a few extra steps in order to regain my balance, marvel at the length of the 5-iron shot which reached the front apron of the green, and then look back at the severe downhill lie of the hill...
At that point, my mind is racing, but, I haven't yet added 2 + 2.
...
Upon reflection, days later, I realized that the severe downhill lie helped me accomplish something that had been sadly missing from my game - a complete free-wheeling weight transfer, dictated by the severe downhill lie. So, just before I reached the top of my backswing, I started to incorporate a swing-thought involving my left foot which simply became: "foot".
I married what I had read years earlier about Jack Nicklaus "replanting the left foot" with what I had experienced in real life on the golf course with my very unusual 200 yard 5-iron shot, and settled on that swing-thought of "foot", which has undoubtedly been the single greatest improvement to my golf game ever, as I was finally starting my downswing "early" by transferring my weight to my left foot, while learning to "swing from the ground up..."
...
Sometimes, very bad lies can produce very good things.
...
Thanks again!

This insight into load and explode is long overdue by golf instructors- Well done and kudos to you for exposing it. Seems to me this is a basic fundamental of the golf swing that has been ignored and never taught from the get go. It is the key to striking the ball solid. Thank you.

Top notch videos, Chris! Recently had both hips and left knee replaced. Your videos always seem to include a well-explained "why". This has helped me with a new, smooth hip turn with better-controlled yet increased swing speed. I just might get back into single digits again. Even if I don't, at least my swing is smoother and more repeatable.

Thanks Chris for another great tip. I have been fighting the early extension problem. I find I have an excessive amount of shots off the toe. I going to give this a try. I went from swaying to early extension or maybe a combination of the 2. Keep the videos coming, great job!

What about the arms / wrist during explode part? Does it leave any room for them to hit the ball ? If not, wouldn’t that take a lot of strength and energy for the lead foot and leg to swing the club through? Great video thank you 👍

Brilliant video as always Chris. I’ve been working on this exact thing with varied success. My teacher cut some tennis balls in half to do the same job as your towel. Simple but very effective.

Really well explained, with nice visuals and drills

Excellent video Chris. To help give people some added feel for this movement, I’d encourage them to really feel the weight of the club head or even swing a shag bag instead of a club because that’s where the pressure shift comes from - in order to swing the weight back towards the target.

Great tips, especially with the towel

Was just talking about this the other day with my boss. When Im swinging my best I feel a flex in my left knee that starts the downswing but never knew why. I finally realized that the flex creates a "bounce" that drags my left hip open and my arms through the ball.

Love this move Chris and I will take this to the practice ground, I did a 3 hole vlog on my channel and was really shocked by my swing and the early extension I was doing. I have been working hard on things over the past few months with some success, think your drill will help me nail it.

Great segment, Chris. 💯 agree that ground force reaction is crucial to generating speed. I use Superspeed Force Pedals to achieve similar results. Cheers 👍🙌🙏💪☝️✊🔥

Great video, but where are the golfers? I saw one person walking behind you during the whole video.

Thanks Chris, dose that work with irons to?

Just tried this in the garden Chris and I have never felt the vertical force like this, it certainly feels a bit more athletic, does it add a lot of speed then?

Very good tip. Would this technique work for irons - even a wedge?

Iv watched a few videos on this, tryed doing this method yesterday at the driving range and all I managed to do was get less distance and hook the ball right all the time.

Another great, simple yet very informative video, Chris! Is this applicable to irons and fairway woods too?
