The Liberation Carol

Показать описание
This Christmas I didn't expect to write a carol but I started thinking about what Good News might look like for the oppressed and invaded people of Bethlehem. It became a prayer for all the oppressed and invaded in our world today, and those suffering a long, cold, winter. Please feel free to use the carol in public worship, and remix as you wish. I simply invite you to make a small donation to the Red Cross so that this carol may do some good.
The Liberation Carol
Living in crowds of oppression with hate in their eyes
Tortured by cruel invaders,
Rome’s armies and spies in the marketplace
silencing dreams of God’s coming kingdom of love.
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light
In the shadow of death
A light has come
Held in a baby’s hand
Our defender has come.
In this cold high ground of winter. Iced misery
Came the flight of an angel singing liberty
In every house came the cries of the poor.
“We need liberation now”
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light
In the shadow of death
A light has come
Held in a baby’s hand
Our defender has come.
Come see the unmarried mother despised by her down
Yet surrounded by angels who know her renown
For her child is the King of all Kings.
Now justice and joy have come.
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light
In the shadow of death
A light has come
Held in a baby’s hand
Our defender has come.
