Symbols and Linking and Coding

Humans are symbolic thinkers. Only by stuff standing for other stuff can we link together complex thoughts. One side of the link is a simple pattern or visual trigger. On the other side is a more complex memory-blob in danger of being orphaned and lost. We deliberately link by recollecting those old thoughts using little mementos, triggers, trophies, keepsakes or whatever you want to call them. And so, I link symbols from my long-ago past of my positive relationship with my Dad directly to Adi's brand new experiences in also-positive ways that might cause a feeling of connection to something bigger and older and personal and special. With just a mit of organization and discipline, some simple but important symbols can cut across the brief time of 3 or 4 human generations, making everyone feel connected.
