Makes you kind of glad that Sybil was such a sweetheart! I've noticed that Mary and Edith cared for Sybil and never tried to hurt her but protect her

I blame the parents they practically let them behave this way and it doesn’t help they always make Edith feel worthless and ugly like she will never marry and put so much effort finding Mary a husband I never seen them try to find Edith one. They were happy knowing Edith will take care of them in their old age. I was rewatching the whole season her parents are pretty crappy to her especially when they take down about her behind her back.

I remember falling in love with Mr.Napier even more in this scene. Look at his hair, his manner, his voice and words, and his sincere intention towards Mary!

It’s crazy to watch old scenes with Edith. She matured so much over the years.

Edith and Mary wouldn’t be like this if the parents didn’t play favorites. You don’t lift one daughter up while tearing the other down. Cora never could see a fault in Mary no matter how badly she behaved.

Eddith and Mary: Pistols at dawn, 10 paces, somebody's got to go.

In her zeal to ruin Mary, Edith didn't stop to think that she would also hurt her parents also. Their social standing would have been ruined.

I kind of love how incisive Edith is when putting Mary down. Mary’s bullying is kind of constant and relentless but Edith really packs the punch.

There are 15 years between the Pamuk scandal and the engagement of Edith and Bertie. Edith in 1912 was around 18 years old, had always been bullied and humiliated by her sister who had all the love and attention of their parents and of men in general. I find it's understandable what she did. Mary on the other hand, was around 35, married, a mother, with a lot of experience when she tried to ruin Ediths marriage. No normal person can compare those 2 things... Edith was nasty at first, but she had reasons to be, while Mary had none. With the years Edith evolved and became a better person, while Mary remained the same

is it really betrayal if you two are basically enemies and have no loyalty to each other?

I knew, in this moment, that sooner or later Mary was going to seek her revenge and at just the right moment, she blurts out to Edith's fiance at luncheon that Edith has a child out of wedlock, dashing her wedding plans to a Marquess. Savage.

Everyone always talks about how awful Mary is, but in all honesty Edith gives as good as she gets. Don’t get me wrong, Mary has done some awful things to Edith, but almost ruining your family’s entire reputation and future because you hate your sister so much you want to hurt her is equally awful.

I miss Downton Abbey so. Brilliant series as only the British can do.

This scene reminds me of the movie Atonement, a stupid girl playing games with people's lives. Despite Mary's faults, SHE is the one the servants trust in the end, no one ever went to Edith for help.

Cora and mary dismissing edith in that room was edith’s last straw and why edith wrote that letter. Watch the episode again. Had her mother and sister more respectful and supportive of her, the letter wouldn’t have happened. Cora wasn’t a fair mother and mary took every chance to get a hit at edith. The letter didn’t have any consequence on mary anyway, as everything never had any on her.

Don’t know why everyone likes to refer to Edith as a victim. She just couldn’t take what she dished out, simple.

Betrayed her? You can’t really betray someone who never had a claim on your loyalty to begin with.

Mary never forgave or forgot this. And the resentment and deep anger she kept buried finally boiled out when she spitefully told Bertie about Marigold

I wish Mary would have married Evelyn after Matthew died. He seemed like such a nice chap.
